HP859x and external CRT
« on: September 20, 2018, 08:13:56 pm »
I have a HP8591EM which has a composite video output on back panel.  I've tried this with all sorts of video monitors (all LED).  I know I can change modes on S/A and I did.

I cannot make the entire display show up on external CRT.  the best I could do was have most it show up but very top and very bottom was cut off.  Has anyone successfully done this?  Can I get some assistance?  If there is a make and model that works, I don't mind buying.

I know there was a discussion on here while back but I cannot find the thread.  I have an issue with large amount of information presented all at once (such as search) so it doesn't help me much.

Does your external monitor follow theses specs ?  Can it switch between Pal and Ntsc ?

50 Ω BNC,
NTSC, 15.75 kHz, 60 Hz or PAL, 15.625 kHz, 50 Hz

MONITOR  OUTPUT

Drives  an  external  monitor  with  a  signal  that  has  a  15.7  KHz horizontal  synchronizing  rate.  It  can  also  be  switched  to  provide  an  NTSC  format  output
which  is  compatible  with  VHS  video  recorders  or  a  PAL  format  which  is  compatible  with PALSECAM video   recorders

I have the exact same SA and have been through the same search for a compatible monitor without success.

Has anyone used a monitor that is proven to be compatible?  Thanks.

Thanks.  I have no idea what kind of spec my displays have on composite port.  It's not listed anywhere other than it's NTSC.  One commonality is they are all digital LCD displays.  I think, nowadays, composite is an after thought.  I'm looking for a studio quality CRT type display from the same era.  Maybe that'll work better - and certainly has far more adjustment than consumer types.

I'll come back and report with exact model number if I'm successful.

Odd....  Horizontal scan rate on NTSC is 15.75KHz by definition of NTSC.  That means  any monitor can be usable.

Just to be clear...  the image is stable.  It's just that image does not fit the screen area.  It's always too big in one way or another.  If there is such thing as offset and gain for H and V, it should solve the problem.
