Yep. It's ridiculous.

Put a warning sticker on the back or whatever to avoid idiots complaining about battery life, but keep it on.

(...or make it timeout by default but add a very simple way to make it stay on, eg. a long press of the power light button)

PS: The Chinese can make a set of Christmas tree lights (hundreds of LEDs) last for weeks on a set of batteries, why can't multimeter techs do the same?
