My Experience / Review Hantek DSO2D10
« on: May 15, 2021, 09:26:50 am »
In March 2021 i decided its time to get an Oscilloscope. So i start looking around and found the Hantek DSO 2D10 with integrated functiongenerator.
After some looking i found the official Hantec Store on AliExpress wich offered 7 day delivery from Czechs Republic and i thought great no Customs cause im from German and EU internal there normaly is no customs, so i ordered it on  March 18th. for around 200 Euro (~ 245US$) ang got it delivered just 3 or 4 days later.

Here the first dissapointment came up. The Scope came with only 1 Probe. so i got another probe from a friend who had one spare.
I have played around a bit with the function generator and the scope to get used to the trigger and other functions. Last time i used a scope was 20+ years ago, good old Hameg and Simens 20Mhz analog scopes.
So far everything worked fine even the display and colors wherent that greate. They used yellow and green for the 2 channels wich where quite pale and  the difference was hard to recognise.
But so far i was quite satisfied with the Hantek DSO2D10 so far. But then, the nightmare begun.

After i got used to most of the functions i decided its time fore some real messurments and protokol decoding (i2c) the reason i mainly bought the scope for.
For my project i wanted to decode some traffice on the i2c bus between an ESP32 and an ADS1115 ADC.
The protocol decoding was well mehh not so good as it was described, but that was my least problem with ths scope.
To catch some data i set the timebase quite low and manually set the memory depth to 8m and the scope froze.
It didnt react to any inputs and i had to resart it. Well i thought it mit be just coincidence or i did something wrong.
After rebooting the scope i did some more messurments but as soon as i used the full 8M memory depth the scope froze.
This time even a reboot didnt got the scope out of its frozen state and it didnt react to any input. even after multiple reboots so i contacted the Hantec store on AliExpress.
They didnt respond for a few days so i contacted the Hantek support directly.
The technican send me an email with instructions on how to set the scope to maintenance mode and how to install a complete new operating system (Notice Operating System not Firmware!)
After that the scope booted up normaly again, but the problem persisted.
As soon as you used  a memory depth above 4M the scope froze during messurments.
Meanwhile the Shop also responded and keept asking for more time to find a solution to the problem.
Im usualy quite patient so i gave them a chance but nothing happend, they keep asking for more and more time.
So i told them i claim waranty for a not functioning device. Again they didnt respond tor a couple of days.
Since the Scope works on a Linux operating system the problem indicates a defective memory.

So i decided to make a video of the frozen scope and opend a dispute on AliExpress.
Again the official Hantec store played on time and only react just befor the deadline.
AliExpress ridiculously suggested to keep the frozen, not working scope and acceppt a refund of 20 Euro (~24US$) for a 200 Euro Scope.
The dispute took nearly 3 weeks and i had to return the scope. The Hantek Store insisted i have to return the Scope to china, not to Czechs Republic where it was delivered from. The Shop also Insisted i have to send it via express Airmail.
That was another 50 Euro (~60US$) of shipping costs i had to pay for.
So by now i payed about 250 Euro (~300US$) for a not working scope i also didnt have anymore

By now the scope is at the chineese custom for over 2 weeks but Hantec dont care about and didnt try to clear customs what is in their responsibility.
Instead they claim they didnt receive the scope and delaying the refund even more.
So by now im waiting for over 2 month for the refund of my Money. I didnt even know if Hantec will refund the shipping costs even they promised and i fear they wont.

250 Euro and no scope, just a tracking number which says item not cleard for customs by receiver.

Meanwhile i calld a lawyer asking what i can do now. He recommended to me to get a court order against Hantek czechs Republic and to have the bailiff enforced it.
However, that means that I have to advance more money, which I would then also have to sue

So my oppinion and experience, NEVER again anything from Hantek

Meanwhile i own a Rigol DS1102Z-E  that was only slightly more expensive then the Hantek and it works like a charm, have way more and better otions for messurments and protocol decoding and came with all options ( triggers, decoding, memory and recording) licensed, it even have 3x the memory of the Hantec (24M) and costs me about 260Euro (~315US$) on Amazon

Hello,

I am sorry for the problems you had with your Hantek scope.

For I2C protocol decoding, I would have suggested a USB logic analizer, you can get a 24MHz 8ch basic logic analizer for as little as €8, and run some sophisticated protocol decoding software on it ( check sigrok https://sigrok.org/wiki/Protocol_decoder:I2c ). A $200 or more DSO/MSO is quite the overkill, imho.

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/ds1000z-series-serial-decode/msg536854/#msg536854

I have a Hantek DSO2C10 (the same as your scope, only without the waveform generator) since march this year and I have had zero problems with it so far. And yes, it comes with a single 10x 100MHz probe, I ordered an extra one for 9.50€.

Hello AndrewBCN,

thank you, meanwhile i own a Kingst LA1010 as addition to my Rigol DS1102Z-E Scope.

Update on the Dispute as of 23.05.2021:
----------------------------------------------------
The packet is still at customs in Shenzhen since 02. May 2021 and havent been collected by Hantek jet.
AliExpress still keeps the refund process frozen.
By now i have send a final reminder beforedebt enforcement to AliExpress Support setting a deadline of 28. May.
If they still havent refund my money by that date i will take legal actions and try to let a bailiff foreclosure my money.

Hello MadHawk

I received my DSO2D10 couple of days ago, it had firmware dso3kb_20210416 already installed and i to have had couple of lockup's when operating controls quickly during run mode.
I to have reported to Hantek but do not think i would try the Chinese return route as did this few years ago with kit i got off ebay and it just got lost.

I'll make best of what i have and hope for new firmware from Hantek  in the future or Ebay it if is becomes a big issue.
For protocol decode the I have a DreamSourceLabs analyzer that i am really pleased with, although the Protocol Decoding Advanced Trigger is tricky to setup it works really well.
Plus you can get on the  DreamSourceLabs web site and download DSView for free to check it out.

Hope you sort it soon imk

Hi imk, sad to hear you seems to have the same problems.

I dont think its a firmware / Software problem since
1. i installed a complete new System according to the instructions off Hantek support and updated the Firmware
2. the problem always occured when using the higher memory depth (Acquire -> MemDepth -> 12M) and using high sample rates at a timebase in the ns range
This let me think the memory might have a some problems / errors which caused the sope to crash if this memory range is used.

I got a Kingst LA1010 and it works very well but i will take a closer look at DreamScopeLabs
Anyway im thinking about to get a Rigol MSO5000 Series Oscilloscope by end of the year when i got my christmas bonus payment ;)

Update:

I now wrote a "Final reminder before debt enforcment" notice to Aliexpress telling them i will take legal actions without further warnings if i havent received my money on Fri. May 28th or at least a confirmation the money have been send.
After that i will go to the court to get a court order for payment which will cost me aditional money, that i will add to the money Aliexpres own me.

Im still hoping i dont have to go all the way to have a bailiff foreclosed on my money, but i will go that way if i have to :/

Just thought you might be interested to know I received a unofficial DSO2D10 firmware update dso3kb_20210510 yesterday that seem much more stable.
I can still lock it up if i spin the sec/div really fast but it is much better than  dso3kb_20210416.
I think we are making progress.

Well Sadly Hantek and / or Ali Express still holding back my refund. The Scope i returned still laying around ad chineese customs and hantek didnt bother to pick it up.
AliExpress also havent reacted to my Final Reminder.
Next week, when im back at work i will print out all evidence and then i will try to file a complaint for suspect of comercial fraud against  the german Headquater of the alibaba group (which AliExpress is part off) at the public prosecuter.

Im tired of that shit and will now try everything legaly possible to sue Hantek / Alibaba.
I will also file a complaint at the european costomer protection comission as far as it is possible.

Hantec is the biggest scammer i ever knew

Hello MadHawk
I must say i am less than enchanted with my Hantek scope but at least i have something on my bench.
So i can imagine your frustration and anger with them you have not even taking the time to collect the scope you have dispatched to them.
I wish you luck with the official channels you are pursuing and hope you have a positive outcome.
I wish you luck and look forward to hearing the outcome imk
