I have had much use of my little Owon VDS1022i as a portable scope. I always have used it in a VirtualBox Windows machine (Debian host, Win guest, that is) and it has worked flawlessly.
But now, it suddenly stopped working and if I attach it to the virtual Win machine, Windows freezes or sometimes give me an information-poor message, something like "there was a problem with a USB device". With lsusb in linux, it gives "Bus 002 Device 011: ID 5345:1234 Owon PDS6062T Oscilloscope". Eh? I don't remember it use to say "VDS1022i Oscilloscope", but I think I would have noticed it before if that was the case. The LED on the scope changes between red and green, slowly. What are linux reporting for your VDS1022, in case the reader has it and happen to running linux...?
Owons homepage is a mess. They have drivers but not the frontend program in a download section (drivers I can't install anyway). All mention of the "VDS_C2" program seems gone. I have tried to mail their customer support, but got no answer.
What could possible go wrong, why does it report another scope? (I've checked this on another linux machine without windows, virtualbox, wine or other programs that may play tricks, same thing: PDS6062T).

I have uploaded my personal archive of VDS1022 s/w versions to https://ufile.io/wynv4ia8 (https://ufile.io/wynv4ia8) (use the free download button). V1.0.23 is nice and stable, and includes java sources in case you want to try a more direct linux port.
You probably also want to keep an eye on recent activity in the main VDS1022 thread, there was some activity a while back to create a linux port... https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/owon-vds1022i-quick-teardown-(versus-the-hantek-6022be)/ (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/owon-vds1022i-quick-teardown-(versus-the-hantek-6022be)/)
P.S. That's a curious attempted change of identity, as you say! :)

Working Owon VDS1022i scope under windows.
On linux :
Bus 005 Device 002: ID 5345:1234 Owon PDS6062T Oscilloscope
So probably it is problem with VirtualBox, nothing wrong with the scope.

Ok, thats a nice result! Thank you! I still think it is the scope, but your answer at least gave me new hope. I guess I have to install VirtualBox on another machine and see. The scope have worked fine for some years in VirtualBox and nothing to my knowledge has changed.

Native linux version. Tried on Mint Linux 19.1 and it work.

Ah, thank you! Going to try that one!
It WAS VirtualBoxs fault, in spite of me excluding it as an error source. VirtualBox 6 broke about everything with USB, but only in subtle ways. Downgrading to VirtualBox 5 fixed everything!
But now I'm gonna try the native linux version! Edit: Oh, no! I've already tried and total failed with the SW for linux. I have to give it another try.
Edit2: This time it worked!!! Excellent! It is always a PITA when instruments only comes with drivers for win and/or mac.
