Note that certain models in the range (maybe just the dual output ones?) are GPIB only some reason

Oh no.. The one I'm getting is 66321B. I found some manual online which covers 66319B & 66321B and it says nothing about the RS232. However on manual updates section says that March 2008 all references to RS232, RS232 connector and functionality were removed from 66311B/D. That manual is not even covering the 66311B so perhaps that is copy error. Would it be safe to assume that earlier models than 2008 still have the RS232 functionality and maybe if the RS232 connector is present it also works?

Nope any of the 663xx series is gpib only unfortunately. You have rs232 in the 663x series.
As said this is another reason why to hack the fw to support serial also on this series (as the CPU board is almost the same).

Veketti:
Would "GPIB to USB Cable National Instrumens NI GPIB-USB-HS" -cable then be the correct to use with for example pigrew's  (https://github.com/pigrew/HP663xxCtrl) program?
Link to the cable in Ali.

My HP 66311B has RS232

Please excuse the poor pic, I didn't want to pull it out of the stack...
