Market name of the tripod part that came/went off
« on: October 23, 2024, 04:20:54 pm »
What is, and how to get, the name of kit/part of the tripod that missed out ie. came off from it as shown below in order to have it ready to be mounted with a common/cheap Canon auto focus camera or preferably all/most common cameras of that such and the manual focus too.
It's Mars PT-21 (likely discontinued) tripod product

Hopefully one can correctly guide me to the market name of this part common people recognize or are familiar with, preferably would elaborate its info detail.
Thanks much before

Looks like you are missing the complete mounting plate.  I wouldn't count on that being a standard sized item to fit on the top of what you have.  The plate will have the 1/4 inch screw that goes into the bottom the camera.  There may also be a horizontal (or nearly so) bar to rotate the plate horizontally and some way to lock it in position.

Don't know why you asked here.  A camera or photographic forum would be a better place to ask.

Most likely, the missing part was made specifically for this tripod.

G'day marhuum,

I suggest it is called Camera Mount + Tripod Adaptor.

https://dk17.com.au/products/camera-mount-tripod-mount-adaptor

It looks like Tjuurko has found a pic of the exact one you need.

That dk17 linked item is meant for clamping to tubing.  Not to the top of the OP's tripod.

replying Tjuurko
So, many replies tellingly inform that this part is impossible to acquire anymore nowadays isn't it?
Maybe a bit retrospective say on how you did obtain it with respect to this and the part state on common market now?

More expensive tripods allow to remove and replace the complete tripod head. Tripod heads are usually mounted to the tripod with a UNC 3/8"-16 thread. Have you checked if you can remove more parts from the column of the tripod? Perhaps, there is some standard tripod thread underneath all the plastic and you could mount a standard tripod head?

Tripod heads fall into two main categories.  Those intended for still cameras and those especially for video cameras.  The latter have a "fluid" or "fluid effect" head which gives smooth panning and tilting.  They minimise the stiction and jerkiness when moving the head plus camera wrt the tripod legs when recording.  Still photography does not need that.

Still photography does not need that.

The photo of the tripod from Tjuurko looks like the tripod was originally equipped with some form of video head. You can also use those for still photography, but most photographers prefer a different construction. There are numerous alternatives: ball heads, 3-way heads, geared heads... They all are also available in different variants and in different quality. High-quality tripod heads can easily cost as much or more than the tripod itself.

So, if your tripod allows to mount a new head with a standard 3/8" thread, you can choose the construction you like best.
