Title: Need Diagnostic test VBA macros from Agilent E5062A VNA
Post by: analogRF on March 12, 2021, 11:24:35 am
My Agilent E5062A which I bought recently and repaired (non booting issue) has started acting up and
every once in a while throws out a PLL unlock error. One time it failed the power on self test with the error: A1 module could not be found!?
A1 is the source module.
I need to run the diagnostic test routines which are pretty comprehensive however they do not exist on my VNA  :palm: :-//
According to the service manual, they are located in D:\Agilent\Service directory but on my unit that directory is empty
except for a text file.

Can someone with a E506xA and perhaps even E506xB VNA send me those VBA macros please?

does anyone have access to one of these ENA analyzers? I have looked everywhere but I cannot find those VBA files that do the self diagnostics.
Looked into the firmware cabs and it is not there either  :-BROKE

Not the same model, but the tests may work for you.  Found I had an image of the drive stored on my main computer after putting in my smallest, oldest USB stick and having the VNA need drivers because it runs 98 non-SE  :palm:

The contents of the Service folder from an E5071A.

Thank you, I appreciate your help. Unfortunately it didn't work. The macros give error and they dont run.
There must be a "DiagnosticTest.VBA" in that directory.

Interesting.  Must be a version/OS difference, I searched through the image of all four partitions on the physical disk and found nothing with the title "diagnostic" anything, but I've been able to run the diagnostics from the main analyzer interface.

yes, the VBA macros written for these ENA analyzers seem to be very specific to the instrument. I had tried other macros that I had found
on the internet for some measurement stuff and none of them worked except the one that was written for E506xA

I think the self test tools from E5061B will also work if anyone has access to one of these.

Judging by the service manuals, the filename and all screenshots look identical to those of the E5062A so
perhaps they can work.
your help is highly appreciated.

Here is a copy of the service file from the D drive of the E5062A Network Analyzer

Kind regards,

Marcel

This is fantastic  :-+ :-+ :D Thank you so much Marcel, really appreciate it  :) :)

well so far all tests pass with no problem  ^-^
it has not thrown out that error today after several hours of use, so I'll see when and if it happens

Keep us informed of your progress I like to read me because I have this device too.

The only thing I have now other than the original is replacing the old IDE disk with an SSD disk.
I will. It is still going with no errors. I have run those tests multiple times, too, and all pass
still those couple of times that it threw out errors a in the past couple of days bother me a bit
but nothing after that. I have checked the noise/ripple on the voltages on A1 that are accessible
at the bottom and they all look fine.

I actually replaced my HDD with SD card+adapter. At the end of the day since there is only IDE interface
there is not so much to gain. I also upgraded to Pentium III 1GHz/133MHz/256kb instead of the original Celeron 566MHz/66MHz/128kb
and also doubled the RAM to 512MB because i had one laying around.

The original HDD boots and works fine with no problem but I was not able at all to make an image of it (sector by sector copy)
I tried at least 4-5 softwares both in linux and windows and always stopped copying at a certain point and started grinding the head
never moving forward...so there was some kind of error on the HDD but apparently it was on a white/unused space I suppose...
anyways, in the end I used DiskGenius and just made a clone on the fly on to the SD card and didnt use sector by sector copy option
and it worked fine
of course now I am able to make an image of the new SD card.
