We have just acquired a Rigol DS4054 from a bankrupt stock auction.
The instrument seems to work okay and came with all options installed, bargain!
However the UART decoder doesn't seem to work well, and there are a few other minor bugs... I was thinking I would upgrade the firmware but then read that this can in some unfortunate cases brick the scope. Due to its age, it would obviously not be under warranty any more and therefore I don't think I'd be very popular at the office if I did this and killed it.
The scope is currently SW 00.02.00 and hardware 1.2 and we would be looking at installing 00.03.02.02.00.
Is it worth doing? Will the scope be bricked? If it does go bad can it be recovered or will it be only something Rigol can fix?

Thanks
