Hmm, maybe you are double-fooling me, but just to make sure: no that was a joke.

Edit: And most importantly, did I win? :P

You will have to wait until April 29, I think.

One of the cool features I like is the ability to take a waveform captured on one of the scope channels, and copy it into the AFG arbitrary waveform memory and play it back. You can modify it, or add noise, for doing margin testing, etc.

This is extremely useful to me if done well.  I was playing around with a similar capability in some free software but it does not allow editing or noise injection.  Have you used the functionality on the MDO3000 or you just reading about it?  I would like to understand how easy it is perform the capture, editing and playback, if anyone has used it.

The Agilent 3000X and 4000X has had capture/edit/add noise for a while now, but only 8k pts.  The  MDO3000 has 128k pts and higher freq.

Definitely a game of "one-up-manship" on this feature and many of the others.

It will interesting to see if Tek has improved their protocol decode performance.

I did have a chance to play with this feature.  Capturing the waveform and transferring to to the ARB memory is simple.  Adding noise is easy.  Editing is a little tedious on the instrument, but the free ARBexpress software makes it easier.

Is Tektronix ever going to made a competitor to Agilent DSOX2000? There should be a successor to that DPO2000 introduced in 2008.
BTW I do not like the way they implemented the DVM in the UI od MDO3000.  :( :( http://info.tek.com/www_mdo3000oscilloscope-oneisthenewsix.html#DIGITALVOLTMETER
It occupies too much space on screen.

You have the option to shrink it down to the "normal" measurement character size.

Well, I do not want to upbraid much, there is no competitor to MDO3000 today. Nobody but Tektronix makes mixed domain scopes today, AFAIK. But I prefer the DVM at Agilent DSOX series... At MDO3000 it is too big or too small.

All they have to do is remove the spectrum analyser. Without that they might be able to compete on price.

So the big question - Who won the MDO 3000 giveaway?  Sadly - no email to me saying that I won it...

What's the DVM feature got over, say, the normal measurement system -- that is, ignoring the silly font -- am I missing something?

On a first quick test it doesn't appear to be a true hardware DVM, as the updating seems to stop and slow with the acquisition.

How does it feel? What are some first impressions?

It's pretty good. Not slow. Controls are a bit cramped, and a few UI hoops I don't prefer, but the performance seems fine so far. I expect it to be a fine scope, as you'd expect from a Tek.
I think in the end the only thing it will come down to is is it good value for money. If you are just after a scope, then of course it's likely a big no, the SA just adds so much base cost that they just can't compete in that area. But if you value the SA built in, and can afford it (or are spending someone else's money) it's a fine scope.

It actually is a true hardware DVM, but I believe the results are tied to the acquisitions.

That's what I love about you, Tektronix.  Your attention to detail.
http://076dd0a50e0c1255009e-bd4b8aabaca29897bc751dfaf75b290c.r40.cf1.rackcdn.com/images/files/000/585/372/original/original.jpg

attention to detail says a lot about whomever put this page up and left it up.  I suspect that this has been outsourced and that Tek asked for the page to be removed, but that the web company just removed all links to this page and didn't remove the page itself.  That's a best-case scenario.  Might be that Tek's entire web team is on vacation during a major product launch.

Actually, that this page is still up is just unreal, no matter what the reason.

Well, with the server clearly not processing negative time correctly, maybe it now also accidentally gives every registrant automatically a free t-shirt. Lets massively re-register and see what happens.

Hmm. I can imagine the marketing department temp / intern just stuffing t-shirts in an envelope because 'puter says so.
But I suspect the shipping of hordes of scopes may be noticed by management.

Probably. But this is Danaher, so anything can happen. Then they'll force us to return the scopes, and no one will do so.

Yeah, I'm familiar with those units, but I don't own any.  I have the slightest hope I would win the Tek. :)

Now let us compare MSO3000 and MDO3000. Well, If you are used to MSO3000, then you will easily switch to MDO3000.

Yes, that's true. The spectrum analyzer input takes the spot of the Aux input. The Run and Trigger controls get shifted up and over to make room for the spectrum analyzer controls and numeric keypad. Bonus is that the numeric keypad can be used for any function that requires numeric input, not just the spectrum analyzer functions.
