New Der EE LCR+DMM
« on: March 13, 2015, 07:50:11 pm »
Der EE just released a new meter DE,-5003/5004. It's a solid mid range DMM with decent safety specs but also has a built in real LCR (selectable frequencies up to 10kHz, can read ESR, phase angle, 0.5V test voltage, etc). Neither part are ground breaking specs wise but it's nice to see an all-in-one that isn't entirely a freaking toy. The LCR specs should be good enough for most hobbyists, not for pros though. I wonder what you guys think about it.

My biggest wonder will be price. Will it be cheaper than buying a solid meter and a DE-5000(which as we all know is damn good) separately.

If this is really cat 111 to 600V for LCR that is really good. It would be helpful to have an LCR that could withstand accidents with charged capacitors.

Just saw on another forum, the slated price is $150 or less. Which actually seems like a smart price point based on the features and specs. It's about a $120 meter with about a $50 LCR. So together it's pretty reasonable. A good price point I think for hobbyists with a bit of savings.

Who distributes these units?  The DER website does not have prices.

If it sells for less than $120, then it will quickly become the most recommended meter for those looking for something close to $100 as their first meter for electronics.

Relax, the DE-5000 is a much better LCR. This one though is a capable one for hobbyists, just not nearly as nice as the DE-5000.

It's not that new. It has been on my spreadsheet list for quite a while.
Supposedly 6,000 count, but it shows 5 digits on the display (4 1/2 really).

Thanks for the images. This looks like a well built and it might actually meet its CAT ratings. Like I said before, this looks like the perfect meter for electronics.

ES51930?
pcbroute, do you think you could shoot other pcb side, switch and instruction manual?

On the first glance it really looks nice and tidy . But I don t like the design at all . Why did they put the 10 A at the middle right and the small one at the bottom and not the other way round ??? So the COM trace on the board for the 10 A range is very long and the shunt is straight over the control circuits of the multimeter . Then I don t like the cheap trimmer pots on the board . It seems that they trimmed the multimeter into the specifications . The fuses are the right choice so  :-+ for the fuses . The design is not that good so  :-- :-- for the design . the idea to combine a multimeter with a lcr meter is a good idea  :-+ . But unfortunaltely this meter is too much built down to the price

Gossen MetraHit 30M has trimmers. Is it also "too much built down to the price"?

ES51930 looks very similar.
Sorry, i don't shoot other side, may be a later if i broken it)

Peakmeter PM8246 looks inferior, but with same concept. I wonder how much cheaper it would be.

the input of the de5004 seems protected to 600v ?
on the pcb there are some big resistors, fuses, mov and the input is the same for volt and lcr.

on the peak8246 on the contrary there is a separate input for the lcr, there is not far to say that this input is not protected at all ...???

just received a deree de5004 today, first impression is : really not as good as the deree de 5000 !!!!
can be used as an esr meter, will have to check that better but it seems ok for that use.
definitely not an lcr meter.

I'm probably one of the last people that needs to review this meter, due to my lack of knowledge of using a LCR meter or even really knowing how to use one. That is why I bought this one and the 5000 to learn some more. The Auto on the LCR frequency part is very erratic and never get the same results.

For those guys who are interested what is under the display. There is TI MSP430F4371. The same bracket as in some LCR tweezers like AKIP-6107.

Has anyone tried to activate an IR optical link with the PC? The 75 leg of MSP430F4371 gives no signs of life. :horse:

Not found a complete datasheet with schematic for ES51930.
May be someone knows, what is purpose of the missing components on DE-5004 board? :-/O
Think that the resistors RC13, RC14 and op. amp. U3 are responsible for contactless electric field measurement.
It would be cool if DER EE implemented all functions.

If I recall correctly, DMM version does not do pF.  That is why I got DE-5000 LCR Meter.
