New firmware (00.03.04.02.01) bug of Rigol DS2000A Oscilloscope
« on: December 27, 2015, 03:48:38 am »
Does anyone have DS2000A oscilloscope with updated firmware to 00.03.04.01.00 or 00.03.04.02.01? Please verify whether there is any bug.
1.) Connect test probe to channel 1 (or ch. 2) and the probe input is connected to internal 1khz reference signal.
2.) Set trigger mode to auto and adjust the waveform signal to stable.
3.) Change the time base to 10us/div
4.) Set the Acquire button to normal
5.) MemDept is changed from Auto to 14K point, the base line will disappear or the screen will freeze (you can disconnect and connect the test probe again to view the reference signal)
6.) If the MemDept is changed to 140K point or other choices, the oscilloscope will be back to normal.
7.) Finally, if the time base is set to 10us/div , 5us/div, 2us/div or 1us/div and acquisition set to normal or HighRes and the MemDept set to14K point or if the time base is set to 10us/div and acquisition set to HighRes and MemDept set to140k point, the above problems will occur.

Conclusion: be careful to set the combinations of the time base, the acquisition mode and the memory depth of oscilloscope.

Yes rigol morons broke the firmware. On those settings it stops sampling.

Confirmed on a DS2072A with 00.03.04.02.01  :palm:  :--

How long must we wait for a working firmware?

That's seems to be the price difference to HAMEG / R&S Scope - you get what you pay for!!!

Well, i had found out on my DS2202(not A) with latest firmware 3.4.2.1 (3.4.SP2) that the screen will be refreshed right, if "Anti-Aliasing" is set to "OFF" - found in "Aquisition", the scope behaviors regular, even i had mutiple changed the MemDepth and Time Base. Does anyone can confirm this?
I remembered that we got a similar problem in aone of the last releases - the screen freezes if a Mem-Depth was changed an a slower timebase was selected  - or sothing else. It sounds like a problem with the internal memory management of the RTOS they use for that firmware. It's a time consuming job to join a bunch of hardware versions and different models with also different capabilities.
I guess that RIGOL spents more time in the development of new features for the newer models of that Scope, instead fixing and testing their models in the field.

With combination of main and second time base (zoom), sampling input signal is stopped (however you can still change view using buttons)
Steps to reproduce:
condition: (CH1 - input signal) and (CH2 OFF) and trigger (CH1 or EXT or AC Line)   OR   CH2 - input signal and (CH1 OFF) and trigger (CH2 or EXT or AC line)
note:  IF CH1 and CH2 is ON no problems with sampling input signal occurs.

Main time base   Second time base (zoom)
10 ms                  50us, 20us, 10us, 5us, 2us, 1us
 5 ms                   20us, 10us,  5us, 2us, 1us, 0,5 us
 2 ms                   10us,   5us,  2us, 1us, 0.5us, 0,2us
 1 ms                     5us,   2us,  1us, 0.5us, 0,2us, 0,1us

Can you enyone confirm if this is a bug?

Confirmed on DS2072A-A. Seeing the exact behavior described in the same ranges. Above and below no problem, but in the range shown and neither waveform updates.

Edit: Wanted to add that sometimes when changing from a timebase outside that range to one in (100us -> 50us) the waveform will update a couple of times before freezing.

Hello,
I just receive a new DS2072A.
I confirm that if I change some options in 'Acquire' menu the DS will hang soon after.
Specially, Memory depth, Anti-Aliassing and Highres.

6.) If the MemDept is changed to 140K point or other choices, the oscilloscope will be back to normal.
7.) Finally, if the time base is set to 10us/div , 5us/div, 2us/div or 1us/div and acquisition set to normal or HighRes and the MemDept set to14K point or if the time base is set to 10us/div and acquisition set to HighRes and MemDept set to140k point, the above problems will occur.

Conclusion: be careful to set the combinations of the time base, the acquisition mode and the memory depth of oscilloscope.

im on firmware v2.0, I have no faith in major firmware until its at least 6 months old. There is no benefit based on the firmware change log that will make my life better in fact I think it makes it worse as they introduce even more bugs or break already working features. typical.. why dont they outsource the firmware to a U.S company, bloody cheap skates!

With these situation.
Steps to reproduce:
condition:
CH1 - input video PAL signal  and trigger CH1
Time base set 10 ms or 5 ms or 2 ms or 1 ms
Now run record signal - 7 screen (I have standard memory 14Mpts)
If replay recorded signal with button or knob with time base set 50 us, 20 us, 10 us, 5 us then instrument hard freeze.
Now .... only reset with power button.

These combinations record and replay time base we will get freeze instrument

record                replay recorded signal with theese set time base
10 ms                  50us, ?us, ?us, ?us, ...., 50 ns
 5 ms                   20us, ?us, ?us, ?us, ...., 50 ns

The bugs reported in reply #1 and reply #7 both appear to be fixed in the newest firmware, 00.03.05.00.01. I only installed it today, but so far have not had any issues with it.
