Get both datasheets and you will see.. --- End quote --- It's functional replacement if all you ever use it for is to measure voltage. (which is what a lot of these people probably do) --- End quote --- When I used the 87V is for measuring AC, DC voltage. Resistance, Continuity, Capacitance, Frequency, Diode check. I would need a separate current clamp to measure current and I dislike the current clamp accessory because it reads in mV and not A. The wireless current clamp for the 283 is a good one. With FC capability is nice as sometimes I need to close the electrical cabinet and then turn on the power to take reading. It's safer that way. So yeah it would do what I use the 87V for but I don't like that it's too big and 150 hour of battery life with 3AAA is kind of short for me. It's not for precision work but I don't use the 87V for precision work either. |

(ie. The Fluke salesmen paid them a visit and spread a lot of scary talk about legal liabilities if they don't use a self-checking meter) You'd get one, right? |

But as I said it's a good replacement for the 87V but I don't like it too big. I have used the 87V Max for a while and while I do like it I don't like its size. |
