Oh yes!

RTB22 and RTB24 firmware is now available on GLORIS date 10-Mar-2025... to those with download permission...  :palm:

I guess that I will be trying it tonight on my RTB2004.

Would much appreciate it if someone could PM me the firmware, I don't have download permission (fuck you R&S).

Upgrade went smoothly for me.  Still identifies as an RTB2004 in device info, but does say RTB2 on the splash screen.

Only visible thing I've noticed so far is a change to the menu icon at bottom right.  Running a self alignment while I pop out for dinner.

alturastheking, thanks for the heads up!

The new firmware is on the R&S website (if you have a login  :-\)  but only on the page of the new RTB2, not (yet) on the page for the RTB2000. But it works nevertheless, and the new revision is 3.00 for both old and new instruments, so its nice this is on par.

Having just a spare hour before going to work, I installed the new firmware. As expected, we go from 6 to 8 measurement positions, get new gated measurements, and Runt and Risetime trigger modes. All nice.

I atach some screenprints below that show where new functionality and settings are. Gated measurements are indicated by square brackets [] in the measurement and statistics views. Can be set in percentages, or in time (like uS, relative to trigger pint, I assume).

Nice. Also, in the measurement selectrions screens, it shows (G1) for gated measurement. Where does the '1' come from? No idea! Can we have several gates?

Installation went smooth, and we get a new splash screen that is not showing RTB2004 anymore, but a new "R&S RTB 2 SERIES OSCILLOSCOPE". Brand new instrument for the same money ;-)

BUT.... fir the first time in life I am encountering some nasty bug on the RTB, it seems. When taking screenshots, the device takes some 30-40 seconds, it seems! And I got several disk busy arrors at some point too. Tried different USB thumb drives, always the same issue. If I go to settings and chose to have screenshots to be saved to internal memory, it still takes unusually long. Do others have the same experience?!?

Best, Rudi

Thanks for the info! I'll try to get the FW. Can someone please paste the MD5 or so?

Rudi, have you tested FW downgrading? It used to work at least, hesitating slightly about the upgrade now given the bug you found, it sounds pretty nasty given how often you want to grab a screenshot (though I'm assuming the web interface isn't affected, as you're saving on the PC rather than instrument).

No, not tried that. And I need to stop playing now, need to go to (regular) work  :)

Let's first see the experiences of others concerning what I think might be a bug....

Fair enough, just went for it and it seems to save screenshots reasonably quickly to internal memory (haven't tried a USB stick as all of mine seem to have OS install ISOs on them right now, and like you I have to get some work done!). I do like the new splash screen.

Edit: found an empty USB drive, works fine (<2 seconds) saving to that also. Rudi - maybe try a "preset" or secure erase (assuming there's nothing on it you need to save first).

Firmware Enhancements

The Rohde & Schwarz RTB 2 oscilloscope launches with an updated firmware that brings several key enhancements and new features alongside various bug fixes. These improvements are designed to increase usability, functionality, and measurement capabilities for users.
This firmware will also work on the Rohde & Schwarz RTB2000, which shows that R&S is highly interested in long-term customer engagement and a high life-time value of the products. Here are the main changes and their benefits:

1. Increase Number of parallel Measurements from 6 to 8
With the firmware update, the number of simultaneous measurement slots will increase from 6 to 8, allowing users to display and track more measurement parameters in real-time. This improvement means more data is available at a glance, which is particularly useful in complex testing scenarios where multiple variables need to be monitored. It enhances the oscilloscope's capability for comprehensive analysis, enabling users to gather more information without needing to switch between different measurements.

2. Gate Measurement Capability
The addition of gate measurement functionality allows users to limit measurements to specific portions of a waveform. This feature is particularly beneficial for focusing on specific time intervals or sections of a signal, improving the precision of measurements by ignoring irrelevant portions of the waveform. It is ideal for analyzing repeating signals, bursts, or events within a signal, providing more targeted analysis and enabling users to better isolate and troubleshoot issues within a specific time frame.

3. New Trigger Types: Runt and Rise Time
Two new trigger types have been added: runt and rise time.
-  Runt trigger detects signals that fail to reach a full logic high or low, which is crucial for identifying signal integrity issues like glitches or incomplete transitions in digital circuits. This feature helps engineers pinpoint intermittent problems that could cause system failures.
-  Rise time trigger enables users to detect signals based on how quickly the waveform rises from one level to another, which is critical for analyzing the speed of transitions in high-frequency circuits. This trigger type is particularly useful in applications requiring precise timing and performance optimization in high-speed digital systems.

Hmm... why use the USB thumb drive for screenshots?  I guess if you are working away from the bench... but I never use the RTB except at the main bench.

When at the bench it is so easy to just use a network connection and web browser for Livescreen captures and remote control.

Edit: For the record, using a cheap SanDisk 16GB USB thumb drive formatted as FAT32, I also see screenshots take less than 2 seconds (+ 5 seconds for the popup to go away).

Yes, now they finally have gated measurements and runt and risetime trigger like some 400-500€ scopes... :-DD
Good news for the owners anyways.  :-+

The functionality and firmware is the same - The same release firmware of the 'new' RTB2 (v3.0) also can be installed on the RTB2004 (also called v3.0).

The difference between the instruments? As far as I can see, its really about same device. What I noted is :
  • Some features that were paid options before now come as a standard, such as the waveform and pattern generator, and segmented memory (if memory serves me well)
  • The instruments are given a new name ('RTB 2 SERIES'; RTB22, RTB24)
  • The blue color used in the casing is a darker shade of blue

There might be other differences I have not yet seen.

Even the ordering numbers for the "old" RTB2002 and RTB2004 and the new RTB22 and RTB24 are the same (1333.1005.02 and 1333.1005.04, respectively).

They saved a little bit of ink (and some bytes in the code) by dropping the 00 in the name...

The Manuals for the 3.0 version are in the RTB2000 series scopes downloads. I couldn't find the manuals on the RTB2 Section. It seems like work in progress.....:-//

Can someone who downloaded the firmware share it with those who can't download it themselves?
