new oscilloscope probes
« on: August 13, 2015, 01:26:04 pm »
hello

I am searching for at least 150mhz probes, and after some search, I found two that I can get very easly(mouser/digikey):

 The TPI P200B (200Mhz 10:1)  http://www.digikey.pt/product-detail/en/P200B/290-1002-ND/268014

 The Pomona  6069A (250Mhz 10:1)  http://www.digikey.pt/product-detail/en/6069A/501-1011-ND/603321

 The Pomona   5806A (20/200Mhz 1:1 10:1) http://www.digikey.pt/product-detail/en/5806A/501-1008-ND/603318

The TPI looks really cheap, considering that its 40€ instead of the 81.36 for the pomona, the question is, does anyone knows this probe ?, is is any good ?

Another questions is, switchable probes are not really my favorit, but because its from pomona I might consider them , anyone with these ?

I don't like the Pomonas. The probe is way too thick so it will be difficult to use.
Did you look at Testec? I would get switchable probes though. If you want to measure a low level signal it is handy to switch them to 1:1 instead of 1:10.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

I went to look for it, and I found http://www.testec.de/tastkoepfe_mf_250mhz0.0.html?&L=1

the product would be the TT-MF 312 probes (1:1 1:10 250Mhz)

they also look large, do you use this ? what is the durability on the 1:1 1:10 switch ? does it feel like a secure switching position ?

I have a bunch of Testec TT-LF 312 1:1/1:10 switchable 150MHz probes and they are not as thick as they look on the picture. The metal end is slightly less than 5mm. These can be bought as single pieces (with a lot of accessories) or economy packs with 2 probes and just a spring-hook, earth wire and probe adjust tool.

If available to you in your country, the Probe Master scope probes are quite good, nice and slim and come with a variety of probe adapters for various probing challenges.

i.e. http://www.probemaster.com/index.php?cPath=1

cheers,
george.

I bought some very low cost ($9 US) Hantek PP150 10X probes that were offered as 100MHz.  These were VERY well made and the actual BW was much much higher.   These came two in a bag.    I suspect if you buy them now, they may still have the same performance as the ones I tested.

This is the link to my review on them if interested.
