Looking for a good handheld multimeter, Metrix MTX 3292?
« on: November 24, 2018, 05:30:25 pm »
Hello,

I am looking for a good handheld multimeter for use in the field. Application is mostly aviation (up to 30V) and automation engineering with current, voltage and temperature (PT100/1000/Type K) measurements.
Right now I use a Keysight U1273A, quality is good, specs ok for me and I even like the display. It does the job, but I think there are meters out there which can do a bit more.

What I am looking for:
- Specs at least as U1273A
- Overall size as small as possible, U1273 is ok
- Quick startup
- Math function
- Big display with secondary measurement (e.g. math function)
- Very quick peak detect
- Very quick continuity tester
- Fast Autorange
- Good built quality
- Should be known to calibration labs, with standard or well documented calibration procedures.

Until now I found the Fluke 289 and the Metrix MTX 3292/3293.

The Fluke is well known, good quality, very good specs. Price is ok, but it is big and heavy. And it takes a long time to startup.

Then I stumbled over the Metrix 3292/3293. Price is a bit higher than the Fluke, but it is really small (even smaller than the U1273A).
Specs are are appox. the same as U1273A and has all the wanted features. Even a spec mode, where it displays its accuracy depending on the measured values. Really great, saves me the time to recalculate everything.
I have not found much about this meter on the internet, maybe someone is using it here?

Are there any other good alternatives out there which meet my demands? Or is the MTX 3292 already on of the best?

Thanks,

Magnus

Try to find how much they cost to calibrate if needed in the future, your choice may change ???
In some case maybe they will give a link to download a calibration software ??

They did on my Metrix mx556 ?

For me an oled display is a no go vs an color 320x240 lcd

Metrix is a 100,000 count display  vs a 30,000 count,  the Metrix has better dc accuracy, the metrix has a bluetooth option model, optical usb port like the keysight.

Metrix         https://www.aemc.com/userfiles/files/resources/datasheets/Digital-Multimeter/2154-03.pdf
Keysight     http://literature.cdn.keysight.com/litweb/pdf/5990-6425EN.pdf

metrix 3292 video in french:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=IgOVzitEcuI

you have to compare them on a sheet  loll

keysight 0,05% dc accuracy   mtx 3292 is 0.03,  mtx 3293 is 0.02
Keysight is ok to open the battery door and remove blown fuses,  dont know for the Metrix ?
Metrix, you have an ac adaptor  like the Gossen Meters, the Metrix can run while charging.

keysight  10,000 measurment points,  3292 is 1000, 3293 is 6500

Battery life seems identicals : 100 hrs each

and the list goes on ...

Thanks for the reply.

I don't want to compare the MTX3292 with the U1273A, as I already have the Keysight. I am looking for a meter that is better than the Keysight, and the Metrix seems to be.

I am just checking if there is another alternative to the MTX3292 (as the Fluke 289, but for me the Metrix seems to be better).
