old Tektronix forum (https://forum.tek.com/) has been dead
« on: December 12, 2024, 07:08:08 am »
Now(Dec/12/2024), try to access the old Tek forum(phpBB based, forum.tek.com), will be redirected to totally useless new TekTalk.
according to WaybackMachine, it appears to remain as of July; it has already changed as of October.

I should have backed up.
What did you do, Tek? WHYYYYYYY |O |O |O |O :-- :-- :-- :--

What a pain. Back when they started threatening to "upgrade" and close the old site, I had exchanged a few emails with one of their online-community-managers or whatever, arguing to keep the old site around, at least as a read-only archive. I will contact them again , I recommend multiple people do the same. Hopefully they didn't perma-delete everything yet.

I had also tried real hard to wget / curl / scrape the old forum, but they had very aggressive clownflare settings that kept denying everything. Wasted a bunch of time for no result.

Did they copy the old posts over?

Keysight forum just shut down entirely:

Did they copy the old posts over?

AFAIK no. They're barely giving signs of life on the new forum at all, and search is mostly broken. I have not received replies to any direct inquiries either.

The cynic in me is certain Tek want their new forum to fail so they can justify removing it entirely....
Where does all this test equipment keep coming from?!?

I guess this is a good reason why you should not give corporate documents for free, it looks like they will back it up and try to sell it to people. I think the general wisdom would be to self publish

Some greedy dick saw it as a resource he can steal.

Basically the same old advice : CC your valuable emails.

Does anyone think that this means there is less innovation going on, and instead its a totally different group of people that are focusing on making money in a entirely different way then the company is known for ? I wonder if this all started with R&D budget cuts.
