Title: Old USB Scope; EasyScope 'Swordfish’
Post by: StuartA on December 26, 2021, 05:27:52 am
Sometime in the early 2000’s, the US company EasyScope produced a USB scope /data-logger which they called 'Swordfish' (it was in a plastic enclosure shaped like a fish!).  I think it was quite a good product for its time, but it was fairly rare here in the UK.

I do occasionally still use my Swordfish, but I need to hook it up to an alternative PC to the one I have been using (runs Win XP). Unfortunately, the USB drive I have with the installation software may have been corrupted and now fails to install properly (missing dll files).

Is there anyone out there who can help me out with software? I think that Easyscope was acquired by “Connective Peripherals” and I contacted them, but got no reply.

Thanks in anticipation.

Pics, or it didn't happen.

Thanks for taking me back to their website; I did visit it but it does not have any legacy files for the older products. However, I suppose it might be worth downloading the one setup file they currently offer; it's only going to take 5 minutes to try it!

Pico; I also have an old 2000 series Picoscope, from about the same period as the Swordfish. The one feature the latter had over the Pico was an FT function, effectively, a spectrum analyser over its limited bandwidth, but it was just a single channel whereas the Pico was dual channel.

The Swordfish was made by “USB-Instruments”

I had a quick look on the Wayback machine and they did offer the software and user manual for download. I have not checked the various captures from 2006 onwards for a capture of the software but you may get lucky ?

It was also sold as the Penscope by Meilhause. It may be worth searching their site with Wayback machine for the software.

They still sell the Pocketscope and offer the software download for the range.

Not having much luck here. The instrument I have is the PS40M10 scope, and perhaps I should have referred to that model number rather than 'Swordfish' when I started the thread, as it's clear now that it was sold by the number of different companies, who may have used alternate names, but retained that number.  Searching the various site suggested, I cannot find the setup software.

I have downloaded the software for the later model (ds60m10), and it is clearly from the same family, the software is very similar, but I cannot get to connect with the 40M10.

I have an usb-instruemts DS1M12.  You can find a copy of the software on my web site (http://chrisgrossman.com/manuals/easysync_usb-instruments/).

I have an old windows 3.1 Asus netbook that it works with.  I have never tried to run the software on a newer OS.
