Opinion sought on Sony Tektronix AWG 2005 Arbitrary Waveform gen for home use

(1/1)

mr ed:
These awg's seem to be relatively cheap and some come with 4 channels (for x,y,z app).  They are 68000 based (not windoz) and have a floppy i/o and GPIB, SMD construction. (Siglent etc not very appealing to me, as I need some level of repair work just to keep busy).

Downside is board only service manual. I can service most things with schematics so a lack of diagrams may be an issue.
And firmware in flash, I suppose, hard to make copy of flash with surface mount components. How likely will flash fail in the next few years?
I could also put in a lcd and floppy to usb stick adapter if necessary.

And so,  like that, and what are the failure points?  CRT,  power supply, then what? Usability? ( I can write python to drive gpib easily.).
