It's a very sensible purchase (provided you know what the three bugs are).

Don't mislead people about HOW MANY bugs there actually are in the Rigol DS1054z.

I can list 10 without even trying hard....

How many of those affect people who simply hook up the probes and look at waveforms?

The pulse count can be wrong, the math functions don't always work, and....?
Well you don't need left/right blinkers on a car because you never take a turn, you don't need brake light because you never brake, you don't need head lights because you never drive at night, you don't need wipers because you never drive when it rains, you don't need seatbelts because you always drive slow, you don't need airco because you never drive when it is hot... need I continue? I'd love to sell a car to you without a steering wheel; I'll tell you to just lean into the direction you want to go!

If you just want to look at signals get an old DSO from Ebay!
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Well, here she is!

So far seems to work really well, very responsive and it didn't take long to locate what I needed in the menus. The only standout disappointment is it is pretendously sluggish with the FFT up.

Now to figure out why that power supply board I built last year appeared to be switching at the wrong frequency. Or even if it is actually switching too slow.
For fun, for information? http://firworks.net

I actually meant more about the responsiveness of the UI, and how "well it works" kind of. Like the feel of using it to to testing.

Just don't forget to share your experience :)

Most of the technical attributes? Only waveforms/s and noise! Noise is actually more interesting (I'm avoiding the word important here) than waveforms/s. There is so much more to a modern DSO than just noise. How about protocol decoding, FFT performance, saving screendumps, connectivity, PC software, overal ease of use, BUGS!, etc, etc.

Full ACK

Sorry, mate -- to be honest, I did not understand your question in your earlier post (March 27th). Can you please explain a bit more?

Hmm, that is either a very basic question, or you are after some specific detail which you did not spell out.

There are many oscilloscope tutorials on the internet, which I would recommend as a starting point if you are new to oscilloscopes. I think this primer from Tektronix is quite good and comprehensive (need to enter an email address to download): http://info.tek.com/www-xyzs-of-oscilloscopes-primer.html. Or, shorter and with some helpful animations: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/how-to-use-an-oscilloscope

Apologies if you already know all of these basics. If you are looking for something specific instead, please let us know what.
