Which Tektronix model is this? (spectrum analyzer photos)
« on: July 26, 2023, 10:29:12 am »
I am thinking of buying a legacy Tektronix spectrum analyzer that is for sale. The seller informs that he knows nothing about the item. Before buying this I would like to check out the frequency span and if the unit has a tracking generator installed. Does anyone recognize the instrument on the pictures? The model sticker on the unit seems to be missing. If you know the model, please let me know what model you think it is.

It looks very much like this one: https://w140.com/tekwiki/wiki/2710

I have never used a spectrum analyzer. Would I need a separate tracking generator if the unit is the 2710?

It is not essential to have a tracking generator for general spectrum analyzer usage but it is a useful function to have for measuring circuit performance of amplifiers, filters etc.

It looks like this unit it has the tracking generator option (Opt 04) installed as it has the connector for this on the front panel.

After reading another thread, here are some common issues with the 2710:

Programmable logic devices which do fail
Burnt out front ends and couldn't detect a signal
Other front-end issues that cant be repaired
Inconsistent amplitude results on the screen,
PLL going out of lock,
freezes,
lack of response to front panel inputs,
SLOW response to user input
etc etc
