Title: Oscilloscope probe readout pin fail
Post by: Paul Moir on January 29, 2018, 03:22:25 am
I went to remove the probe from my oscilloscope only to find that I couldn't.  Surely this problem has affected more than just me?

Anyway, forewarned is forearmed!

Haha, that's a very old problem! We used to have issues with that donkeys' years ago in our lab...

People would swap Tek X10 probes onto HP1741A scopes - those had external nuts on the BNC connectors and the pin would get caught. There were an awful lot of scratched up connectors (sometimes front panels too!) and bent or snipped pins in the probe connectors. Our calibration department used to moan like crazy - that and blown 50R internal terminators!

It was actually a pretty good way of not getting your probes stolen, potential villains would often give up and go off in search of an easier target!  ;D
