oscilloscope recording software
« on: October 07, 2018, 12:42:04 am »
Hi,
What good software for windows is there that works with the RIGOL DS1054Z that will let me continuously record?
I dont see that capability with Rigols ultrascope software.
Thanks

The problem is that the USB bus you'd connect it over doesn't have nearly the bandwidth to transfer that data, so unless your sample rate is extremely low (a few ksample/sec), you'd never be able to transfer the data quick enough through the connection.

That's not strictly correct in broader sense, bus as such can do at least some tens of MSa/s with USB 2.0 and some hundreds MSa/s with USB 3.0 and it does with some scopes.

I tried to look up the specs on the scope you mention.  From what I saw, they basically just claim it has USA and Ethernet.  I was not able to find any further details.

LabView has support for both Ethernet and USB.  Maybe Rigol has support for it already.

I use LabView a fair amount to automate tests I want to run.  To give you some idea, this video shows me using LabView with one of my scopes to measure AC power.

Sparkfun used to offer a base package of LabView with some small micro board for $50.  The software was watermarked but other than that it was the same as what you would buy.   I know a few people who bought that package for Labview and tossed the micro board.
