NAS-Z5 Insertion unit

Hi, I have a Rhode & Schwarz NAS-Z5 insertion unit. I also have the Rhode &Schwarz CMS36 Radio Test set. Unfortunatly what I don't have is the cable that connects the two.

Anybody know what the part number is for the cable? Or got any details at all about the pinout?

I've tried R&S but without a part number they won't help.

Hello,

our customer support had to dig very deep. The cable you are looking for is named CMS-Z37. Part No. is 1065 4920.00.

But as the instruments are not delivered anymore since the 1990s, the cable is also no longer available.

Only chance is to rebuild the cable youself according to the enclosed plan.

FYI, one critical bit of info is that some of the wires must be shielded, namely the ones labeled “geschirmt”. Lemme know if you need any more help translating the German.

I’m also a bit perplexed as to the connection list (“Verbindungsliste”) showing three items, not two. Two are the connectors, but one looks like it could be a PCB or something. It has wires coming from both connectors.

Yes I noticed that too, it looks like there may be some sort of level converter built into one of the connectors. Without knowing the details of what that part is it's going to be difficult to make up a new lead.

Found a bit more information about this mystery component in the test lead. Looks like it has 4 inputs

+10v
-10v
GND
Res DC

and 2 outputs

GND
Unknown?

Looks like it may be some sort of op-amp with +/-10v supply, a ground, and a reference. And it's applying a reference voltage to the NAS-Z5 unit with +/- 10v swing.
