Title: OWON firmware update gone wrong, help! :(

Dear friends,
I am new here, just learned about this blog a few hours ago. I have an OWON SDS71021211874 and I am happy with it, for me basic noob researcher it was fine. The problem is I tried to update its firmware and things didnt work out well... It runs, but the characters are messed up, the help page and menus are unreadable. How could I some this? Could any of you please share a light? Please!  :-BROKE

Perhaps you have inadvertently changed the display language.
There is at least one Youtube video showing how to change the language.

That is indeed correct. After an upgrade the scope defaults to chineese

Thank you very much for your replies. The sad part is, it's not chinese characters, it's just a bunch of dots forming a square pattern next to the decimal values. If I touch the HELP key, it is full of "screen polution" not any type of language from us humans... I will take a picture to show you exactly what I mean by that... Thank you again for your reply! I hope I can get my scope back into working condition, because I am a researcher who works on volunteers with spinal cord injuries (paraplegic and tetraplegic patients) and without a working scope I have to cancel all the agenda. This is very sad for me.

Owon has too many firmware variants for the same scope. I guess there's different hardware inside the same models. Did you get the firmware specifically for your model SDS71021211?

I downloaded the version 3.4 of the firmware, it looked like the right one for my scope, but maybe it wasn't  |O.  I think I might have used this one here: SDS7102UP3.4  http://files.owon.com.cn/software/upgrade/sds_upgrade_3.2_3.3_3.4.rar (http://files.owon.com.cn/software/upgrade/sds_upgrade_3.2_3.3_3.4.rar)  because if extract the RAR file, the is a PDF file where it says my scope is one of the compatible ones... PLEASE HELP! Sorry for being such a dummie and noob  :-BROKE

I think you should have used:

SDS7102UP3.3 
!! NOTE !! The firmware NOT applicable to SDS7102E.   

Only applied for batch and serial no.-
SDS71021211xxx, SDS71021219xxx, SDS71021223xxx, SDS71021234xxx
SDS71021240xxx, SDS71021246xxx, SDS71021251xxx, SDS71021303xxx
Upgrade detail :
1. Fix waveform math function

Because you serial is in the red range.

It's just a guess!

Edit: Yes, the .PDF inside http://files.owon.com.cn/software/upgrade/sds_upgrade_3.2_3.3_3.4.rar (http://files.owon.com.cn/software/upgrade/sds_upgrade_3.2_3.3_3.4.rar) indicates it can be used for the SDS7102 1211xxx.

Well, I would flash it again... and see if this time it works.

Now, I would try changing languages. Try all options and see if one of them makes the graphics recover.
