Title: OWON HDS272S mishap
Post by: eti on January 24, 2022, 10:27:38 am
Do you think the waveform generator of my OWON HDS272S has input protection?!

I accidentally hooked up 12VDC to the waveform (function) gen socket.... PSU was limited to 1A - heard a faint click, and on subsequent connections (mistake of course) but it still outputs just fine!

Does the output amplitude decrease when loaded?  If the output impedance is 50 ohms, it should be able to supply half the amplitude to a 50 ohm load.  That would be a test you could  make.

Thanks. It seems fine - here's a 47R connected across the waveform gen (I'll call it func gen!): Purple trace = loaded, Yellow trace = open circuit

Looks good.  The generator is probably OK 8)

Phew. I thought I’d maybe damaged my new scope 😂

Note to self: quadruple check ALL connections when doing late night tests.
