OWON VDS1022I Quick Teardown (versus the Hantek 6022be)

<< < (165/166) > >>

SIBtronics:
thats the software, probably has some headroom, however 400v pk-pk in x10 (so 40v pk-pk) is what owon says the actual hardware can do, and thats what i am curios about, not that i ever need to meassure that high, maximum i do is like 14v peak or so, i prefer not destructively finding out what its capable of  :-BROKE. the included probes say 150v rms cat II and 300v rms cat II on the little panflet thats shipped with them. i personally wouldnt dare touch mains with it anyways (even north american mains, forget about german 230v mains), atleast not with these probes.

Gyro:
Ah, you're right, thanks for correcting. I'm sure it used to say 40V pk at one time but it's a long time since I last checked. There probably is some headroom but I certainly wouldn't want to push it. The VDS1022I version spec has always been a bit 'strange' as it claims 400V rather than 40V for the other models. I don't know whether it is some (unsuccessful) attempt to reflect the isolation voltage out the USB port isolator (not that it would be safe to make use of that as I explained previously), or just an error that never got corrected. The front ends on the non-I and I variants are definitely identical.

The Class II markings on cheap scope probes is always suspect, particularly the switchable X1/X10 with their very small slide switch. Even a low cost X100 probe needs to be used with a nervous eye towards prospective fault current if probing mains (preferably not at all), but is invaluable for working on things like valve amps... or lower voltage uses where the 10M / ?pF loading is too great and a 100M / <?pF is helpful.

LiquidMK:
Hello All, newbie here.
My main scope for many years is PICO3425 and I'm totally satisfied with it. Some time ago I decided to find some cheap alternative and asked ChatGPT to advise me scopes with possibility of decoding serial protocols (because mostly I use scope for analyzing of problems in serial field buses like Modbus RTU). Its advice was: "Owon VDS series (e.g., VDS1022I)", so I ordered VDS1022I and still wait its arrival. I found that VDS1022I can decode protocols only with florentbr software and python decoder.py script.
Please can somebody place here a screenshot - how this decoding seems practically? Also, I would be grateful for some short explanation of how to start this decoder.py script and how to properly connect VDS1022I to serial bus (e.g. RS485 two-wire, RS422 four-wire) for protocol decoding. This question worries me because my PICO3425 have all channels differential and isolated and for more than 15 years I didn't used any probes other than differential, so how to use ordinary probes? I forgot it  :-\ .

SIBtronics:
That would interest me a lot aswell. i didnt even know about this script, but protocoll decoding with it sounds very useful, didnt know this was even possible with the vds1022i. would love a Tutorial on how to achive it atleast with serial.

SIBtronics:
I have gotten as far as being able to Talk to the scope with Python, and the provided jupyter notebook. the plotting is kinda broken (you need to modify line 84 in the plotter.py programm to get it to work) https://stackoverflow.com/questions/77053052/no-attribute-figure-in-module-bokeh-plotting-in-pandasgui-library. basically replace Figure with figure. then replace FuncTickFormatter with CustomJSTickFormatter in plotter.py aswell. this is to fix some naming differences caused by the current version of bokeh. the serial decode triggers an overflow somewhere, i still need to fix that. these scripts are kinda broken, and not up to date.
