owonSPM The best bench power supply + multimeter
« on: March 25, 2024, 04:26:29 am »
From my experience the owonSPM series  " https://www.owon.com.hk/products_owon_spm_series_1_ch_dc_power_multimeter " is the best programmable power supply + multimeter for beginners and YouTubers/ streamer, the interface is good the software is not the best but contain all the fonction, so you can directly display the information in to OBS, if you are good at programming you can make your personal interface it's open. The electronic is very good, I think it's really an essential for it's price.

I'm interested about your experience.

I didn't see any other topics about this product,
Best regards.

Can't wait to accidentally shove 60V into my circuit when trying to measure voltage.  ::)

There are loads of switching PSUs on Aliexpress with the same form factor. I have one (€30), and have seen a few teardowns/reviews of similar ones.
Filmsy construction, loads of output capacitance with bad transient response, terrible protection, noisy...

This one might be better, but I wouldn't buy it without watching a proper teardown and safety review from a knowledgeable engineer. Also, a linear PSU and two decent multimeters are often the first thing newbies buy. Having the DMM integrated inside a switching PSU, with unknown isolation, noise inmunity and input protection would make me a bit nervous TBH, and would not recommend it upfront.

I don't do streaming, videos or anything, but could do a screen capture of any of my instruments without any problem really. Maybe it is a worthwile investment, but that would be proven by a proper hardware review and tests.

An unsheathed 4mm banana plug will fit all the sockets on the front panel. Think of all the times people have blown a fuse or shorted a circuit with a probe plugged in the amps jack on a multimeter. Now imagine that, but with a power supply outlet potentially at 60V.  :-//

You can get a perfectly good multimeter and a power supply around that price, why bother with this? With a standalone multimeter you can at least bring it with you and use it without an outlet.

I don't think many people have it for obvious reasons, so if your very impressed by it and think "is the best programmable power supply + multimeter" then please show why..
Also came by this PSU a few months back when I was in the market for a cheap bench SMPSU for 10A loads (SPM3103) but I didn't have a need for a split DMM purpose.
There are quite a few mashup items on the market and some are better than others..you can even get bench multimeters with Bluetooth speakers & visual clocks..  :scared:
