PACE MTB hand piece replacement

I got a Pace MTB, just the power supply.

Now I need to get the hand pieces. I see they are mostly M19 6 pin plugs.

Pace pieces are 300$ plus... so too expensive. I am thinking about using some more affordable hand pieces till I get enough money to buy the original ones.

Looking at Pace's pinout and GND is 4. Heater 2-4 and Sensor 6-3. Not sure what 1 is for.

Is it a matter of adjusting the pins or it's way more than that like sensors have a particular threshold, heaters operate at particular currents and voltages?

It is an MTB250 PS85A.

But my question may not have been clear, sorry for that.

Does PACE only work with PACE handpieces?

Or will it work with generic chinese handpieces given the heater and sensor wires are put correct?

I suspect the answer is no as heater and sensor may have very specific specs.

To begin with, it is preferable to buy the most important PS90 tool with a black cover on the connector - this is

SensaTemp.
There is also a PS90 with a blue cover on the connector - this is IntelliHeat.
You need Black (or an adapter for connecting hand pieces IntelliHeat).
There are many hand pieces for these stations, but the prices are high - this is PACE.
You can pick up the instrument yourself, provided that it must have an internal 100 Ohm platinum sensor (for example, a

Heraeus LN222) with a PTC coefficient and a power of about 50-80W.
I have PRC2000 and made sure that on the AUX channels a household iron has a temperature of +/- 1 degree C.
I love PACE.

Where did you this this information from? Is there any datasheet that describes the specs of sensor and heater?

Well. This is written in the technical documentation, but what exactly is in the tool - I do not know.
And I have the whole set of tools for the PRC2000.
Everything is easy to check with a standard ohmmeter. I bought a Heraeus LN222 and first tried it on the PRC2000 AUX channels, which, with some refinement, can very well be used for lower heating the PCB. Also, temperature control works on the usual three channels.
I have a technical description on MBT. Volume limits do not allow this to be laid out right here.

I am planning to rewind the transformer primary to 220v as well.

First real quick: MBT, not MTB. Your google searches will fail if you spell model numbers wrong!

Anyhow, the connectors are Amphenol-Tuchel C091B series DIN connectors. For your own cables, you want the “male, bayonet locking inside” type. Ordinary DIN plugs will also fit, just as friction fit without locking.

Though it’s a bit of a travesty to put some crapola tool onto such a device. :p

Did you look first? It might already be a dual-primary transformer. The ST-75E I just got is wired for 230V, but it’s a dual-115V primary in fact, so it’d be trivial to rewire for 115V. Maybe yours is the same way.

That would be great if it is double 110 on the primary. If not by looking at photos I can see the primary coil is separate from the secondary which makes it much easier to rewind.

Here are some videos which show a disseminated MBT250. This guy has no clue what he is doing aside from successfully repairing the pump plastics, however it gives an idea of how they are put together.

Maximum cringe for me was when he thinks the hot air handpiece was a vacuum desoldering handpiece. Whole third video was him trying to repair a $1.50 disposable flux trap.

I really like this design though despite him bagging about it, there wasn't really much wrong, it was probably dropped at some point and just needed new consumables.

I recently picked up an ST-75E with SX-90 handpiece, and I suspect it was sold because of poor suction, which was due to an old, embrittled front seal — a $5 part. (It also has a broken trigger button cap, which I sorta fixed for now.)

I still need to get the new seal, but in the meantime I jerry rigged a seal using some high-temp wire insulation tube I had laying around. (AFAIK it’s braided fiberglass impregnated with silicone.) Ghetto, but works for now.

I paid $115 for it shipped. It came with nearly that value in new consumables! (six new 1.02mm tips, and 25 pairs of filters, and a few glass tubes.)

When I get the seal, I’ll also get an assortment of other tips, the cleaning brushes, a new sponge, a replacement button, and the metal baffles that go in the glass tube. I’m undecided as to whether it makes any sense to spend the $20 on a pump rebuild kit, since I don’t think it needs it.

Ah cool, for the SX90 the button should be 1500-0064-P1 if you need to get one and the variety tip pack is 6993-0288-P1 (contains eight different tips).

Z baffles for your glass traps are part 4010-0115-P2 (comes in a pack of two). Its function seems to be to stop solder hitting the trap filter directly.

I looked at the tip assortment, but I may just buy individual ones of ones I want. Luckily the Swiss distributor sells the tips individually, not just in the 5-packs.

I had a look and I could only find extra spares of 1121-0930 and 1121-0931 which is a bit sad. I need to splash out on a few myself.

Of course, more than once! I guess you haven’t noticed that I frequently post links to the Pace videos, since they remain the best soldering tutorials out there, even decades later!

Watch out for unscrupulous sellers of Pace tips.  I've seen many trying to sell 1 tip for $69 when for the same part number, it should be a bag of 5.

I've seen this on ebay and amazon.

You would probably get it for free if they put the P5 suffix and it was listed as new (and you escalated it to ebay) would fall under not as described. But yeah you need to ensure the description/photos match what you think you are buying.
