Title: Pc performance requirements for easy use of QuantAsylum QA401?
Post by: n3mmr on December 31, 2018, 06:14:06 pm
What level of performance is required of the PC to use for controlling the qa401?

Would a Minix Z83-4 do?

Don't own one so I can't say for sure, but I would assume that a modern quad core atom would do the job.  Modern CPUs have a lot of realtime multimedia features and can handle a lot of moving data... and even high sample rate/resolution audio doesn't even count as that these days, so I'd assume the software will run on most anything.  Sure, you'll get faster response, better encoding times, and better computational analysis speeds with better hardware, but unless you're trying to do a fair bit of processing in realtime, that CPU is likely plenty.

Hi,

I´m running WIN10Pro on a MSI Z170 Mainboard, Intel Core i3 6100 processor and 8GB RAM.
The Quant401 works flawlessly on that system.

Well, that's a fairly competent gaming PC, with a 3.70 GHz multicore cpu.

I wouldn't expect the requirements to be very high but you should probably contact QA to get an answer.

I use an old Dell tower and it works fine.

Manufacturer = Dell
Model = Inspiron 3847 (early 2013)
OS = Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1
Processor = Intel Core i5-4440 @ 3.10GHz
RAM = 12GB, Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz (16GB max)
HD = 1TB, 7200 rpm

I run an older QA100 Oscilliscope on a 2007 MacBook booted to Windoz 7 and it runs fine.  All the PC does is the graphics, the QA401 might work the same.

I got an answer from QuantAsylum, Matt.

He thinks it's a non-issue, the worst bit is doing the long and deep FFTs, and most any pc on the market will manage.

I suppose I should have known: Reaper with a dozen heavy lifting plugins runs w/o any problems on my old Bay Trail desktop, so a Z83-4 will likely manage.
