Hello everyone,

I'd like to start this topic about the simple repair of these very useful little devices from Peak Electronic (https://www.peakelec.co.uk/)
I find that these small devices have technical services with good value for money and are also made in Europe.
I own the DCA75 pro, ESR70 and LCR45, which I use every day.
I design 3D supports long time ago... (https://www.printables.com/model/382656-peak-electronic-device-tabletop-holder)

The aim of this topic is to be able to repair them easily if possible, before we decide to send them back for repair.

Peak's repair costs are very democratic, but we don't all live in England, and transport and customs costs can be astronomical especially if you live on the other side of the planet

LCR45 :
I noticed that my LCR (out of warranty) was giving me incorrect information (60nf instead of 100nf), the calibration of the probes was no longer working.
short circuit probes gave me 1.063K ohm
Maybe I was careless and connected the device to a capacity that was not completely discharged.

The probes input path consists of a 10 Ohm 1% 0603 resistor (Marking 01X) followed by two BAV99 Diodes which are used for clipping and therefore protection of the input.

So I measured the value of the resistor of 10 ohm....Et voilĂ ....  :)  she was out of order !
I certainly had to take a measurement on a capacity that was always charged....
the two BAV99 diode cases still seem to work perfectly but if in doubt, I will also replace these two BAV99 SOT23 cases

Conclusion :
the repair was simple and I was lucky not to destroy anything else...
Be extremely careful when connecting capacitances to be measured... (as is well explained in the manual)
Discharge them two times !  ;D ...

Thanks to Jes Siddons for theses fantastic designs.
(A little bird tells me that the future evolution of the LCR45 could include a voltage protection tester/capacitor discharger like in the ESR70 (FQS4903/relay/few power resistors)...(as in the ESR70))

Best regards
Renaud

Well done.
Peak are members here and you can also contact them through their profile for assistance.

Customs costs should be NIL for product repair when the shipping declaration is correct.  ;)

I WOULD LIKE to join this post.
My ESR70 does not measure ESR but only capacitance (it measures capacitance correctly). With each measurement it shows <40. Calibration of measuring probes is not possible. The relay works correctly. The input resistors (33 ohm, 150 kohm) have the correct value. The MOSFET also looks good. No elements show signs of explosion.

I found the cause of the fault. The relay is responsible. You can hear a click but the contact resistance is high. Above 100 ohms.

Hi Ozon,

Lucky I found your post.
My ESR70 Gold also measures capacitance but the ESR value is off by few ohms.....also I cannot calibrate just like you.
Could you please let me know if there is any way to test the relay in circuit and also where you got hold of the replacement relay?

thanks
