PicoMeter - keychain DMM
« on: April 18, 2017, 11:53:04 am »
So for reasons I don't recall, I was wondering if anyone did a keychain-sized DMM, for those random times you want a DMM when you weren't expecting to.

I found this : http://pico-meter.com/
Not too much info there, but based in Sydney.

Looks a neat idea but possibly not robust enough to survive day-to-day in a pocket full of keys.
Youtube channel:Taking wierd stuff apart. Very apart.
Mike's Electric Stuff: High voltage, vintage electronics etc.
Day Job: Mostly LEDs

There are a few pen shaped maters - so more like a slightly larger probe. I don't think they do amps though, so volts and maybe ohms only.

It is something like the Mooshimeter, but much smaller and lower specs.

That's cute! And the mooshimeter too: https://www.dragoninnovation.com/projects/34-mooshimeter I discovered it in one of electroboom's videos.
The further a society drifts from truth, the more it will hate those who speak it.

$49 for DMM, $59 for DMM+DSO, $69 for DMM+DSO+LOG, sounds like software limitation.
Wonder if the $49 unit can be hacked for full features.

One needs to ask if their time to hack it is worth $20 or not.

Don't think it is available yet. It is either a design concept by someone or it smells very much like a Kickstarter/Indiegogo campaign but I didn't manage to find it. Also all mentions of "PicoMeter" that aren't referring to measuring distance are blogs and various website parroting the marketing blurb from the website verbatim, nothing else.

Doesn't seem like a real, available product to me, IMO.

I was specifically referring to $20, not "<$1000". It was a question, not an assertion that someone should not do it. Don't try to read minds from a text reply on the internet. It doesn't work very well.

Hi everyone,

I'm involved in the development of Pokit (previosuly called Pico). We are a Sydney based company currently working on testing of the first Beta units, which we will be shipping shortly to beta testers.

We have a new website with some more videos and info: www.pokitmeter.com.

I'm here to say that you won't need to Hack pokit because we are going release a library so everyone can develop their own apps. The apps will not be limited to any mobile platform, apps could even be deloped on a raspberry pi to log and keep measrumerts and even trigger events. All features MM, DSO and LOG are now part of one product.

We are launching a Kickstarter campaing this month Nov 2017. Hope to get as many people as we can, so spreading the word will be much appreciated.

Any questions can be emailed to hello@pokitmeter.com

Cheers and happy making.
