Ontarian looking for cheap DSO
« on: July 09, 2014, 01:26:35 am »
I am looking to buy an inexpensive modern DSO to replace (or augment) my 20Mhz analogue scope.  I am thinking of something the class of
  • Instek GDS-1102-U
  • Siglent SDS1102CML
  • Rigol DS1102E

I'd like a full featured DSO, ~100Mhz, two channels, on the order of $500 or so.

Here is my question:

I know there are Canadians, and Ontarians on here who might have experience with getting one of these, FOB some Ontario city -- for me, Ottawa.  What are my options for buying one of these or a similar type of scope?  Some American vendors won't ship to Canada at all.  Many will do so with unconscionable shipping costs.  T-Equipment seems reasonable.  Are there other options?  What are the best/most convenient vendors for someone in Ontario to try to deal with?  Is there anyone in Montreal or the GTA I should be talking to?  Am I better off just getting one shipped from HK or Shanghai?

Any suggestions welcome.  Thanks.

And of course the Hantek guy. I know it's not on your list but it is the price you are looking for and Hantek in North America seems to be distributed from that location.

Here is the ebay store.

I have purchased from that ebay store in the past, no issues and fast shipping. As for build quality and such you may have to research that one if you go this route. Generally the Hantek stuff I have purchased is constructed well but the PC software is lacking (typical).

This one looks like it could fit the bill.

Or maybe this one,

Ah! thanks for that.  Hantek is 100% in my target range.
That's the kind of thing I'm looking for -- ships by CPC, no customs/duty/brokerage BS.
Good lead.  Thanks.

Your welcome, they even have a real warranty if anything goes wrong.

I used to import a great deal of test equipment and yes brokerage  can be a problem. Bottom line prices count, shipping counts as does tax and duty.

Hint, do check the ebay store from time to time. You will see listings that are fair. This time it's the 200 mhz one in the link above. A few months ago it was a power supply for 115 bucks turned out to be OK so I got another two days later (75.00 lower than I could have purchased elsewhere). Another two days later the entire lot was gone (was over 130 units when I purchased the first one).

Have a nice day.
