Title: Price of Rohde & Schwarz Spectrum Analyzer FSW8?
Post by: Coliban on November 13, 2020, 11:42:25 am
Hello,

does someone know the price of the Rohde & Schwarz Spectrum Analyzer FSW8 https://www.rohde-schwarz.com/de/produkt/fsw-produkt-startseite_63493-11793.html (https://www.rohde-schwarz.com/de/produkt/fsw-produkt-startseite_63493-11793.html)?
I don't need such a high frequency, I rather need a spectrum analyzer and oscilloscope down to low frequency, for example 5 Hz.
But the price for this device is "only for request", does someone have a hint for me?

Thank you.

They sell a used demo unit in their shop for 43000€. But usually the price depends on the installed options.

Ok, thank you!
I have to overthink it how to get a spektrum analysis from 5 Hz

These days, more and more scopes have some built-in spectrum analysis capabilities, which may or may not be good enough for you. It depends a lot on what exactly you want to measure and what your requirements are w.r.t. analysis bandwidth, dynamic range, phase-noise etc. There is not much that will match the FSW in terms of performance, but if you don't actually need that...

Switchabi, yes, you are right, i only need an spectrum analysis from 5 Hz to some Megahertz.
Not too complicated but most of the devices have a higher low frequency

Hello,

perhaps the Picoscope 4262?

Best regards

Yes, that was my thought as well. If 5MHz is enough, the Picoscope 4262 is definitely worth a look (very good SFDR and low noise). Does need a PC of course.

For DC-some MHz, you don't need a spectrum analyzer, you need something that has a very good ADC and does FFT. If you use an FSW in that frequency range, it will switch out all of the expensive RF part and go straight into the ADC as well.

I had the same needs and went old school with an hp 3562a.  Often overlooked as well as the 3561a. Both start 8n the mhz.

Thanks you.
Picoscope 4262 would be fine but i am not working with windows and it seems as if this scope has no SCPI and ethernet?

What platform are you using? They have a Linux and Mac (beta) version of their software available. I think it runs in demo mode without a device connected, so you could just download it and see if it works. No ethernet or SCPI unfortunately, the devices by themselves are not that smart, a lot of the work is done by the PC software.
And I'm not aware of anything similar (performance/bandwidth-wise) available as a stand-alone scope. They have an API if you want to write your own code.

Windows is probably the best supported OS though. Depending on how it will be used, it may make a lot of sense to just buy a dedicated Windows laptop to turn it into a stand-alone instrument.

@Switchable,

i a m using Linux.
And if i cant connect via ethernet/SCPI, it would not be a help :-(

Maybe i should sample and calculate it.
