problem with battery replacement in a tektronix 2445b oscilloscope

jsblues81:
Is there anybody out there who knows how to replace the internal battery and how to access it once found in a tektronix 2445b scope...thanks in advance for you help.

It depends on whether or not you have an early or late version.  The early version has an Eagle-Picher LTC-7P Li-Thionyl keeper battery installed on the A5 controller board.  The later version has Dallas NVRAM with integral batteries and replacing those is much more involved.  I believe if your scope is has a serial number below B049999 it will be the early version, provided it has not been modified.

Edit: Here is a photo that shows both.  If you're new to servicing these, do not run these scopes with the case removed unless you have a strong fan blowing on the entire underside.

Thanks for the fast response...My scope is #b050143 and has the dallas sram chip...any thoughts on how to approach this...I have been repaiuring and designing analog equipment for over 50 years but am relativly new to diugital, however I can handle tough problems so please your thoughts..thanks.

Has the battery gone dead and resulted in you getting a Test 04 failure when you start the scope?  Or are you at some other point?

There has been extensive discussion of replacing these NVRAMs here and elsewhere--search EEVBlog and https://groups.io/g/TekScopes/topics for detailed help on this.  I do not know the current best solution nor what will work best for you.  Buying a replacement Dallas NVRAM may not be a good option because they stopped making them long ago and your market choices are very old NOS (not good for something with a battery) and counterfeit.  If you've lost your calibration data you will need to calibrate the scope once you are done, if not you need a programmer to copy over the info.

Thanks again...what was coming up upon bootup was test 05 fail 44. I am not sure exactly what that means...manual says positive level too positive.Whatever that could mean, I could think of a few things that could mean...but upon looking for a voltage on the control board, there are no voltages on any chip on any pin when the power is off. Is this too far gone...I bought this for $100 on ebay as is..please advise. I will however check the forums you suggested..thanks again.
