Title: Programmable load off Ebay
Post by: cowasaki on January 31, 2019, 11:45:11 pm
I've spotted an electronic load on Ebay for £129.

Has anyone bought one of these?  Any views on it? It should cover what I need but it will be my first electronic load.  I'm after one for testing out the power supplies for projects I am building for myself.

eBay auction: #292931692895

Not used that exact one, but it looks like a copy/rebadge of one of the Maynuo models.  Buttons looks the same as Maynuo ones.
Specs seem to match the M9711: http://www.maynuo.com/english/xpro.asp?pid=51 (http://www.maynuo.com/english/xpro.asp?pid=51)

I haven't used the Maynuo ones, but I have the almost identical (but older, and slightly different buttons) ITECH 8511 & 8511+, and I think they're pretty good for the price.

Thanks I'll have a look at that in the morning.  I build a lot of projects with my own power supplies and that's basically all I'm after using it for.  At the moment I use a bench supply to work out how much power my device takes and then design the PSU to give that plus headroom.  It's not a lot of money for a new toy.

I agree with Kean.  I've also got an Itech 8511+ and it works fine.

There hasn't been much discussion here about the IvyTech loads (I think that is the brand of the one in your link.), but if it is a Maynuo clone and it works ok, then it seems like as really good price.  Almost seems too good as the Maynuo/Itech loads seem to be going for almost $300.

I use them for much the same thing, and also doing battery capacity testing.

It seems a bit too cheap, so it is almost certainly a clone and maybe using inferior parts.  The Maynuo and ITech ones typically are about double that price delivered.

I did find the exact same one for around the same price on AliExpress

I'm in AU so I can't see delivery options for the one you linked, nor the above AliExpress ones, but this one is also a similar price with free shipping, so it is tempting...

Interesting.  Both of those AliExpress listings refer to the "brand" as VBESTLIFE, but I see IVYTECH on the serial number stickers, and also on both of those ebay listings.  But sellers have been known to "borrow" photos... and they've clearly blanked out the branding on the front panel.

Yup, that is definitely an Ivytech with the name blanked.

When I was shopping around, I couldn't find any info about Ivytech, so I figured it was just a knock-off of Maynuo.  So this might be an unauthorized seller of Ivytech (if there is such a thing), or worse, a clone of a knock-off?

My current method does work but I like the idea of having a constant load anyway. I will probably get this one. I’m upgrading my bench power supply at the same time so it will be nice to have two new toys.

If you do snag one of these, if you could snap a photo of the inside that would be excellent  :-+ Thanks  :)
