Title: Purchase of DER EE DE-5000
Post by: daneck on April 21, 2015, 09:25:06 pm
I just had a pleasant purchase experience that may be of interest.
After finally deciding on a DE-5000 LCR and looking for a vendor, I settled on Amazon since it was coming from Japan and I trust dealing with Amazon.

Of several Amazon vendors, I selected KSS Market Service Japan.
I placed the order on April 8 and received it on April 21, just under 2 weeks.
The DE-5000, TL-21, TL-22, TL-23 cost $149 plus $5.19 shipping from Japan, with no state taxes.

The meter was very well packed and protected, arriving in perfect condition.
Included with the meter and attachments were a note and two Japanese paper art objects.
See the attached image.
You don't see this much from vendors!

He is/was "japanasiana" on ebay. Indeed a very nice seller,
with an extra.

I bought from eBay in January, same seller, total cost $86.47+$14 shipping = $100.47. I did not get the guard lead.

Looks like the price has gone up now.

I got the same nice origami, and a hand-written note, which I found quite nice. My wife liked the origami!

Yes, for the meter with the 3 attachments (4-wire SMD tweezers, 4-wire clips, and guard line), I saw prices from $105 to $175.  And then there was the ridiculous IETLabs pricing double or triple these prices.

I suspect some of the price difference is buying off Amazon rather than eBay.  I never have trusted eBay, but I guess I need to get over that!

I just started buying stuff regularly on eBay this year. I had the same opinion as you. But eBay has changed a lot. With all of the competition and the fact that sellers cannot leave negative feedback, it really has become consumer-friendly.

There are a lot of good deals and legitimate businesses that sell on eBay today. Especially with the subsidized USPS shipping from Asia->USA, you can find many good deals with "free" shipping.

FWIW, I didn't have any issues buying my DE-5000 on eBay (akibashipping (http://stores.ebay.com/akibashipping)). Very well packed and even the exterior of the box was in pristine condition. Or with buying tools from German sellers either (Prime Quality Tools (http://stores.ebay.de/prime-quality-tools)).

I paid about that much, maybe just a little less, a couple of months earlier (different seller). I got the clips, tweezers, and guard lead, but not the power brick or data cable. The price has been steadily climbing. I don't know if it is Yen/$ exchange rate or just profit taking on this popular item, but despite the relatively large number of sellers, you can't get the deals now that you could get just six months ago. Despite that, it is still a bargain.
