Title: Q: Any Black Friday..Cyber Monday deals ?
Post by: dorkshoei on November 18, 2021, 08:51:56 pm
EDIT: might consider other more expensive models if there is a good BF/CM deal, so changed thread Topic

-----

I'm looking to buy a Siglent SDS1104X-E (that can be hacked to 200mhz+options).

If anyone sees a Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal from a reputable seller I'd appreciate a reply here or a PM.

Was hoping I could get something for $450 shipped.  That's 10% off.    Regular Amazon price is $499/shipped.   Not sure how realistic this is, I don't normally buy stuff on BF/CM but this year I think I may get frisky and buy a Prusa 3D printer  too :D

As an EEVblog member you can get 6% off from Saelig if you ask for the discount code in their thread.

Ok that's a good backup option.

Jameco  (an authorized Siglent distributor -  https://www.jameco.com/ (https://www.jameco.com/))   gives first time customers 10% off.

Thanks.  I'm pretty sure I've bought from them before but I'm sure the wife can buy for me if needed.

For some reason I keep getting distracted by the touch screen on the SDS2104X+.  I don't need it's features (right now I have a hacked Rigol 1052E and 4 channels is my only real new requirement). I don't want to spend $1400 (almost triple the price) but for some reason the 2104X+ keeps tempting me.   Doesn't look like Jameco sells it which is probably good :-)

The touch screen UI on the Rigol MSO5000 series just seems annoying to me.

The best touch screen UI on an oscilloscope is the Micsig.

Micsigs were designed from the beginning to work with only a touch screen. Touch screen wasn't added as an afterthought like on those others where it's mostly just a way to avoid using the horrible twisty knob.

It's more that I like the larger 10" screen than I want touch.

If I watch Nezbrun's "Comparing the Rigol MSO5000 vs Siglent SDS2000X Plus" video on Youtube it seems that quite a lot of functionality on the SDS2000X is only available via touch,  other parts only on the knob.

Mostly I like the 10" screen.  As I get older my eyesight is getting worse.   But $1400.  Ugh.

I don't need the uber portability of the MicSig and they're a bit of an unknown quantity (IMO).

You'd find yourself using a mouse much more than touch although some less used features like pinch to zoom or setting a zone trigger are easier with touch. Touch has a dedicated disable button to toggle it ON and OFF.
For a few of the menus a mouse scroll wheel works much better than touch.

SDS2kX+ are in a totally different class of scope to the subject of this thread.

I understand.    Maybe there will be a 30% BF/CM sale on the SDS2kX+ and I'll go for it over the SDS1104X-E ... or pigs may ....

Unlikely. These things have sold like hotcakes this year and even for us in NZ we have never sold so many 2000 class scopes. They're often out of stock for many sellers which makes any need to discount them unnecessary.

But don't get me wrong, the 4ch X-E is a great little DSO and packed with a ton of features however if you just want to proceed carefully consider the somewhat cheaper SDS1104X-U.

Not enough of a price delta.  I'm fine dropping +$150 (X-U->X-E) on features I may not need.  +$900 (X-E->2k) harder (for me) to justify.

Understood although do consider 2kX+ as the last scope you might ever buy.

I have 1104X-E in stock configuration and 5054X (hacked to 1GHz) whose functionality is very similar to 2kX+ and if in your position where the 2kX+ is max stretch that's what I would go for as I know it would serve me best in the long haul. The only advantage for the X-E is the USB WiFi connectivity that the higher models don't offer unless you get a LAN-WiFi adapter for which you'd also need to provide power to.

Like I said I'd love the 10" screen but I'm coming from a Rigol 1052E.

The 2k may be the last scope I'd ever need but by the time *I* need it's functionality it'll be available in a $750 model and they'll be a new $1400 scope with even more advanced features.

Aka I'm not sure paying now for what you may need in the future is a sound plan

But I do love the larger screen.

I am a bit concerned that the SDS1104X-E is now 3+ years old as it may be time for a model roll over with a newer version at a similar price point, perhaps with perhaps a larger screen.  3 years is a long time in tech lifecycle.

Then even the step up to a 7" display will be a significant improvement let alone the additional BW, sensitivity, mem depth, webserver, Bode plot....etc.

Prices for 2000 series scopes of any brand have remained quite static over the years but additional capability has definitely improved and is likely to more and this will keep prices much the same IMO.

Yet you can still buy a new 1052E.....how old are they ?
When a manufacturer hits a certain capability and price point and buyer acceptance/popularity the recipe remains unchanged for a good few years. Often manufacturers add more features just with a FW update as the ROI has long been recovered and instead of the outlay for a new range it makes more financial sense to instead add features to existing designs.....providing they initially have sufficient horsepower to support them and that's where the Xilinx processor has been a big hit for Siglent.

Might consider the Rigol MSO5074 if it anyone offers a decent BF/CM deal on it.

So far not seeing much actual BF/CM specific marketing.  Saelig has a BF deals page up but it's sparse.  Jameco still seems to be keeping it's cards close to it's chest.

If anyone see's/get's any good deals please post here.   Thanks!

~shrug~ sold and shipped by Amazon, not a 3rd party.  maybe Amazon knows something or maybe they're just being generous.

Regardless, hopefully the link helps other eevblog inmates.

It's from the official Siglent NA Amazon shop so the NA Ohio branch will have set the pricing for BF deals.
Anyways it's a hot deal and pleased you got the one you were after.  :)

The last time I bought from Jameco their shipping costs were so ridiculous that I scratched them off my parts source list.

No, but what P.T. Barnum said all those years ago still applies today.
