Question regarding Extech 350/355
(1/1)
9voltbrain:
Hi, I’m new to electronics and wanted to get myself a decent all-purpose multimeter for around 100 bucks, although for now it’s only going to be used for low voltage circuits. I live in Sweden so the selection of meters here aren’t that great. However, one reputable store does have the Extech EX350 and the EX355, which both seem like good options. The EX355 has 6000 counts and a temperature measurement for 20 bucks more.

There aren’t many reviews to read about these. I found one in this community which complained about the continuity test being very slow. But I’m wondering which part of the test is slow. Is it the beeping or is it the exact ohms measurement showing up on the display? Because I don’t care much for the exact measurement, just that it beeps as fast as possible.

Any other general impressions would be appreciated.

For fast continuity tests I guess.
Note that most meters will beep under a specified low resistance value, not directly zero or near by zero ohms.
Apart from this, some brymen meters are in the same price range.

Yeah, I know that from the 10 dollar multimeter I already have. It takes it about a second to activate the buzzer though so holding it for that long gets pretty obnoxious. I'm hoping this one is faster.

I wish to report my experience with the 350. I bought it last year and I was satisfied with it. Then the continuity test started to no longer show the resistance value, but only beep/not-beep. Then it begun to get slower and slower on all the measures (many seconds).
I asked for the assistance from Mouser, who sold it to me. They said me that they were not involved in assistance, so I should contact Extech. Extech don't answer to my request, so I go again to Mouser, telling them that, according Italian law, I had the right to ask assistance from the last ring of the chain, when the OEM was not responding.
They said that they were not going to fight with my company for that, and send me the money back.
Their attitude did not satisfy me entirely: I am not a troublemaker, I was asking only what most of us normally does with their customer.

Any idea on how to repair it?
