Racal VXI card
« on: October 04, 2022, 03:32:03 am »
I obtained a Racal 6062 VXI card that does exactly what I need for a project.
This card has 4 channels of DAC and 4 channels of ADC.
I plug it into a VXI mainframe as the _only_ card (no controller yet)
and I get both "failed" and "access" LEDs.
Another card (HP DMM) seems to behave better -- "failed"
flashes for a few seconds upon power-up, then goes out.
I have done the obvious checks of fuses, system voltages, etc.
Is the hard simply dead, or will populating the
mainframe with a controller make any difference?
Thanks much for any advice ...

For an vxi or pxi frame, you need a dedicated controller / cpu ??

Unless the card  needs only a supply and can run autonomous ???  Never saw this ?? a cpu module was always there ??

Hi rcm99,

for all VXI-mainframes one needs a System-controller in slot 0.
Can be a E1405/06 (GPIB and RS232) or E8491 (Firewire) or
MXI-card with the cable and PCI-card in the PC.
....or an embeded PC.

Have you got manuals and software for the card?

Best regards and good luck.

Yes
I have Docs on the Racal card and expecting a GPIB controller 1406 soon!
Thanks for the reply. Sounds like I **might** not be totally
dead in the water with the Racal card!
