Radio Shack 22-168A multimeter tear down

After seeing Dave tear down various multimeters I got curious as to what the guts of my old Radio Shack 22-168A meter (which is a rebadged Metex M-3650D) looks like. Please excuse the glass fuse, it did originally come with a ceramic one, but at some point I blew both it and the spare and replaced it with a glass fuse with the same rating without knowing any better.

Nice meter. I've got the Metex 3630 which has served me well for the last 13 years. I think Metex meters were quite good for the money but have nearly vanished completely in the last few years.
They used to be big with the large electronics chains like RadioShack or Conrad here in Germany. Conrad has switched to rebaged Uni-T's and other Chinese cheapies.

What's the purpose of the PTC1 thermistor? Well, I don't like that the white 20A fuse is hidden under the PCB. On the other hand, the PCB is not mounted to the case with screws as on my Unitrend UT70A, so it is still rather OK. Their website still exists, but it looks like frozen in time or what. http://www.metex.co.kr/
According to the manual the M-3650D seems to be designed in year 1993. Somebody gave me this old machine, too. The capacitor meter is broken, but otherwise the instrument is OK.

what a funny design.  they use a 7106 , which has its own display driver , tie it into a logic array and then extract bargraph and other stuff from it ...

(the max130 is a pin compatible witht he 7106)
