Title: Rain caused fluke 87 III to beep?
Post by: nikkoderic on July 09, 2016, 04:33:08 am
Hi!

Earlier this morning in my country it was raining quite hard. I was outside the house but still covered from rain. I opened my fluke 87 III but it beeped continuously regardless of what function I was in. After few hours, I opened the fluke again and it was no longer bleeping. The rain stopped a few hours earlier before opening it again. I wonder what was really happening or what really caused the beeping or whether or not it's normal. I hope someone can answer. Thanks =D

Did you take your fluke from inside a warm environment (house) into a cold environment (outside on a wet cold day)?  The dew point change may have caused condensation to form inside the meter.

Does the 87III have input jack alert? A bit of water in the input jacks could make it beep.

It might be warmer inside the house but only by a little bit. We don't have any heater or anything like that inside the house. 87III does have input jack alert. Hmm. that might be the cause. Thanks! ;D

You got that the wrong way round. If one takes an instrument from a cold environment to a warm (and especially a warm and humid) one, humidity from the warm air may condense onto the cold instrument parts due to the shift in dew point.
