Scienscope Vizor vs VE Mantis vs anythingelse
« on: August 16, 2021, 09:46:03 pm »
Hello,
Has anyone tried  the Scienscope Vizor eyepieceless microscopes?
They seem to be an alternative(the only one???) to VisionEngineering Mantis, much cheaper, around 1500$
Or, if you know of any manufacturer of similar eyepieceless microscopes please mention them here.
Presbyopia has arrived, i can't manage with binocular microscopes and +eyeglasses are destroying my vision.
Thank you.

Some years ago, I got the original Mantis scope off the auction site for about $200 with a couple of lenses.  I love it and use it all the time.
Not sure what they are going for now but since they are obsolete you might find a good deal.

Although, I had to try twice on the auction site as the first one I ordered arrived with all the mirrors inside the head unit in pieces.  They need to be packed well.

I do own a Mantis Vision and this Scienscope thing looks almost identical.
https://www.scienscope.com/vizor-series-binocular-microscopes/
Housing and stand are the same (just differing color). Just the mounted lens are looking different.

They look so much identical, I would bet, they licensed from Vision Engineering the right to build the 'old' Mantis (Vision now does have newer ones, looking a bit more modern). Or they are purchasing these old Mantis from Vision and are just relabeling them.

Edit
Interesting: it looks like the are allowing three lenses in the lens holder (not only two) and possibly these lenses does come with a higher working distance than the original Mantis lenses.

Edit2:
Yes, definitely a Mantis, but a bit modified: 3 lenses in the holder, dimmable LED lighting. See here:
I like the holder with the three lenses - this makes me think about how to modify my Mantis (I am wondering why I never thought about this).
