Recommendation for a signal generator covering FM band
« on: December 01, 2024, 10:04:54 am »
Good morning (o;

For some electronic projects I'm looking for an affordable signal generator that can cover the FM band and maybe do FM modulation as well.
Preferably with LAN port for remote controlling.

thanks in advance

As you mentioned wanting to get a Siglent SSA in another thread, maybe look at a Siglent SDG.

I'm not sure what other features you want, or your budget, but both SDG1032X and SDG2042X support FM modulation and LAN control.  They can also be "enhanced" for an increase in max frequency.

I don't own any Siglent gear yet, but I have been reading up on them of late...

See this video for a comparison of the models

Hmmm…then the SDG2122X….as I would need max. frequency of 108MHz plus 10.7MHz…

Or can the bandwith be unlocked as well on lower models?

Not cheap but affordable ;-)

Yeah, sorry - you'd need the 120MHz model for the full FM band.

My understanding is you can unlock the lower SDG2000X models to the 120 BW - but you best read the corresponding threads on that yourself.

TinySA is very affordable.

Might be better to use a simple fixed local oscillator and mixer to upconvert the output of a lower frequency modulated source.

Make sure you use an attenuator to tame its 500 MegaVolt output level.  :)

I have Siglent SDG2042X unlocked to SDG2122X.
I turned it on as a "transmitter" in the broadcast range and caught the signal on the SDR receiver.
