I sometimes have a quick need to test some AC circuits. Was thinking this would be nice to have.

Any thoughts? Suggest something either better or cheaper?

Little lost on their product line, but the Chroma 61605 is really nice - but not a justifiable budget.

Did you have a specific model in mind?

no they are kind of rare to stumble on but they are spoken of highly

mains is kinda ugly and does not change much so they probobly stay in service until they break because people often just want sanity checks on inverter qualification. like people that need to import shady chargers for battery products or test inverters with loads. Because a special lab will test AC to death (safety qualification) but they usually want like a quick check to check if it works at all, so a chroma test bench does that pretty good with a program

use a variac? I would never buy that unless I was getting heavy into some really specific stuff, unless it was for work

most people will buy a drive, or use a variac.
for mains SMPSU you could use a higher voltage power supply and skip the recifier bit and just work on the DC DC or DC ac converter.

The things in front of the DC rail are hard and expensive to test IMO. Active rectifier is a interesting use that might benefit from a high end AC lab supply for DIY... and I guess the PFC.

and I did not mean to get a chroma instead, I just mean that if you compare it to a chroma you see what its worth and if its highly deficient in anything. That supply is still really expensive (but I find mains extremely dull compared to something interesting like RF)
