So BTW, how did you recover the software installation to a new hard drive from the 16800-14103.ISO file without a built in DVD drive on the 16800 series?
Did you copy the .ISO image to a USB flash drive and boot from that, or burn the .ISO image to a DVD and boot from an external USB DVD drive, or did you temporarily attach a SATA DVD drive to the motherboard while you had the system open to replace the hard drive?
Looking in the 16800 service manual just now I see that it says to use a USB DVD-ROM drive for the recovery DVD, so maybe that is what you did.

I burned a DVD using the .iso image, then used a USB DVD drive to recover the Windows XP image, then applied patch for Windows XP SP3, then applied a security patch recommended by Keysight, installed .NET 3.5.1 (SP1) and .NET 4.0 from standalone images I downloaded from Microsoft to a USB stick, then installed Application Software 5.90 (It requires XP Service Pack 3, and the recovery images is XP Service Pack 2). If you cannot get to SP3, you need to download Application Software 3.6 from Keysight (still available).
I also tried with a generic Windows XP Professional and it does not pass the test to install the Software Application, it gives a warning and installs, but modules do not get recognized.
I also had to use a PC mouse during the recovery process, as it did not recognize the USB mouse. Once Windows is installed, you can switch back to the USB mouse.

I just tested a 16911A 68-channel module on my 16801A (34 channel) and it is not recognized as a valid module. I think the frame has some kind of programming identifying it as part of the 16801A and that it must work only with 34-channel modules. I tried reinstalling the full HD image from scratch with the 16911A module to see if it needed some additional drivers, but no, still not recognized.

That is good to know, and also a bummer at the same time. The 16910A and 16911A modules can be picked up at reasonable prices and would be a cheap way to upgrade a 16800 series if that worked, and that would make picking up a 16800 series a lot more attractive. As it is a base model 16801A with only 34 channels might be somewhat limiting for some purposes.
In addition to the Xilinx XC18V04 configuration device on the 16910A / 16911A modules there is also a serial EEPROM on the bottom side. I wonder if that is where the module serial number is stored and the speed and memory depth options?
Some day when I get around to it I'll have to see if I can upload the XC18V04 bits from the 16910A / 16911A modules I have and see if it is the same for all of the 16910A modules and all of the 16911A modules. If so, then take a look at the serial EEPROM bits and compare those between modules with different options. Maybe there are also bits in the serial EEPROM which indicate that a module is a 16800 series module.

Back on the original topic of recovery DVDs, there used to be a file on the Agilent/Keysight website in the ISO image directory named "Decoder Ring (Which one do you need).txt" with a helpful list of exactly what DVD you need for the various logic analyzer mainframes. Too bad they keep purging the FTP site of useful files. I wonder why?
