Did I pay too much?

Today I paid 1k euro for an Anritsu MS2667C that blow the fuse out when you turn It on.
Did I spent too much on It? Did I got a great deal?

Share your opinion because I have buyer remorse, but I can still sent It back practically for free.

Unfortunally there is no way to tell if the repair will be easy.
If the problem is only the PSU to supply lines I can no problem fix them, but I am much worried if the mixers and lna's are blown

If a working one is $3500 then I'd say you did well. That depends of course on whether you can repair it or not. Power supply faults tend to be some of the easier things to repair on test equipment though.

I would say you have at least 4 or 5 voltages coming out of it, it depends if the main / primary stage is fried / blown mosfets could be the cause

As written,  could be easy or not,  it will depend of your competences and knowledge

and the supply photos mmmmmm   not sure, but doesn't seem clean to me,  seems to have some reworked solders

Probably better to buy PSU then try to fix it in case you fix it wrong and blow up a rail with something important on it.

And the basic problem(s)  when you buy stuff is :  how can you repair some of them  IF you dont or wont get acess to an service manual w schematics

yeah you could be lucky or not  .... always on a balance

for me it's still a no   but  i understand the deal if it work after repairs .....  another BUT,   calibration  if ever needed ??  supplemental costs  maintaining this one or any equipment piece  ...

In general, a defect in the RF section doesn’t blow the fuse, the switching PS should have current limit that kicks in before the fuse blows. In general.

It's always hard to judge the value of niche used (never mind defective) test equipment.

+ fairly modern and compact
+ 30 GHz is somewhat rare (26.5 GHz more common, does this matter to you?)
+ broken PSU is mostly a good sign, decent chance it is fixable
- Anritsu is not great with service manuals
- 1 kHz minimum RBW unless it has Option 02 or 03
- low-end model, phase noise in particular is not great
- limited signal analysis (FM only)

Instinctively I'd say it's not exactly a bargain but if it fits your needs and you think you can fix it, the price is probably ok.

It's doubtful the RF section was wrecked before the PSU went bad unless it has been stored in harsh conditions for ages.
Then there's still the case where you've been sold a unit pieced together with all the defective parts from several others. Some sellers do that... It's almost as honest as selling non-working equipment with missing parts and forgetting to mention it

The Sellers bought the equipment in bulk, I am worried that when It was used someome fried the front end.
This Is what I am worried about, I am fairly familiar with RF up to 60GHz.
The Sellers also told that he powered up fine for a bit the first Time the kaboom, so the culprit for me are the filtering caps/mos

PSUs are having overload and short circuit protection for the outputs, so chances are good that if the psu are defective, the rest is working.
