Resistance measurement methodology
(1/1)

Hi, I have fluke 175 handheld digital multimeter and I am interested to figure out the mechanism how the resistance is actually measured using fluke digital multimeter. There should be small amount of current flowing, the question is how much ? I guess there is shunt resistance which will be in parallel to the measurement device for example, if the measurement device is a resistor.

Basically the meter sends out a constant current and measures the voltage accross the resistor. The current changes with different ranges. I don't know how much current for each range but it's something that can be measured and find out.

The meter has an internal shunt. Current is usually about 0.5mA but see the manual for exact specifications of this meter.
(or measure it using another meter)
