I watched the video of the Korean device in the other thread. Not sure I see the point. Aren't your own ears sufficient for telling where noise is coming from?
More interesting, IMO, would be a DIY sound imaging (sonar) setup. Back when I was playing with synthetic-aperture imaging in grad school, I thought it would be great fun to load a cart with a good microphone and digital recorder, then push it along the sidewalk in front of the Beckman Institute, lighting off small firecrackers every six inches, to see what kind of image one could obtain.
