Rigol clearance center sometimes has decent deals
« on: June 10, 2015, 08:00:41 pm »
Hi Everyone,

I don't *need* any more equipment, but I like checking our their clearance center from time to time:

http://www.rigolna.com/clearance/

There is what looks like a nice deal on a DS4024 there right now (>45% off).  It is $1450 which is $150 less than the DS4014 it is right next to for some reason.  Also, it doesn't have any notes or indication that it doesn't come with the standard accessories so it should come with four 500MHz probes.  I guess someone could order it and then argue later if it doesn't (I probably wouldn't ask first and if lacked them then demand later!)  I'm a bit disappointed that they only warranty clearance center stuff for 90 days though...

Good luck,

Alan

FWIW, I ordered an oscilloscope from them a few weeks ago.  Sent payment, then a couple days later, they said they forgot to charge me for shipping.  Please send more money.

Well, by the time everything was added up, it was only a few measly dollars from the cost of a brand new unit from TEquipment.  And with TEquipment, you get a full warranty -- the Rigol clearance units have no warranty.  I politely asked for my money back.

I'll say this though; the lady at Rigol was very nice about everything and they were 100% courteous & understanding.

That is very true - you have to look at the total deal and see if it is worthwhile or not.

the Rigol clearance units have no warranty.

It says the Clearance Items have 90 day warranty (which is not to say that is as good as 'full warranty' but is probably reasonable for 'second-hand/refurbished equipment, and is certainly better than 'no warranty')

Ah, yes.  My mistake.  90 days for clearance items, 3 years for new stock.

For me the 90 days would be a big deal, but if the savings were good enough...  I'd sure test it for that 90 days.  Rigol did tell me once that their out of warranty repair prices were not too bad.

They told me in 10/2014:

Our out-of-warranty repair prices are quite reasonable. It is $250 or 10% of the purchase price, whichever is greater.. plus shipping to/from our repair office in Cleveland, OH.

IIRC, there was about $30 difference in landed cost between the used / 90-day warranty unit from Rigol NA and the brand new / 3-year warranty unit from TEquipment.  Rigol needed >$100 extra to cover shipping & taxes and TEquipment offered free shipping and no tax.  Not sure why Rigol NA needed to collect sales tax unless they have an office in Texas.

Losing 34.5 months of warranty to save $30 wasn't worth it to me.  Your mileage may vary.

Still, Amy Chen at Rigol NA is about as nice a person as you'd ever want to talk to.  They're good people over there.  I'll say the same for TEquipment as well.   :-+
