Rigol DG1022z - 1032z - 1062z Arbitrary Waveform Gens
« on: January 24, 2017, 01:11:24 am »
I'm hoping to pick up a new DG1022z this week and have a question for those that may know about this series of Waveform Gens. The DG1022z is the latest addition to the line released in November 2016.

It seems that the exterior hardware and also the functions of this series (DG1000z) are identical with only the bandwidth differing from 25 - 30 - 60MHz in incremental steps for the models concerned. https://www.rigolna.com/products/waveform-generators/dg1000z/

I have a Rigol scope and precision power supply that all featured software, (key) options to upgrade the units and am wondering if Rigol have done the same thing with this series of waveform gens. There is a listed option to increase the memory, (16Mb) for the arbitrary waveform function, but nothing else that I could find. I would think there is probably no difference at all between the 25 and 30 MHz versions and simply firmware option.

Anyone know if the DG1000z series all share the same hardware?

I have a 1032z, Im not aware of anyone breaking the key for this model to add the extra memory.

The 1032z has been out a long time, I'd kinda be surprised if the 22z was identically hardware wise. I'm sure costs have come down and things have been consolidated but who knows, maybe it is the same!

It's worth searching the forum for DG1032Z - there are a kit if threads discussing it and the DG1022Z.  In one thread I recall, the author compared the two directly and the decided the 1032Z was a much better unit.

When you get into these AWGs, it's almost like you need a spreadsheet to compare features.  Things like sampling rate, maximum frequency for sine waves, maximum frequency for everything else (usually MUCH lower), channels, output voltage, etc.  They vary WIDELY.

Interesting!

As far as I can see from the spec sheet the 3 AWGs are identical with the exception of bandwidth and memory depth which is a listed option. https://www.rigolna.com/products/waveform-generators/dg1000z/

I am of the opinion, (guess) that the DG1022Z is simply a bandwidth and memory limited, rebadged, DG1032Z. I reckon its simply a marketing issue as the old DG1022 is being retired and they need this unit to fill the price point/performance gap.

It seems to me Rigol needed the 1022Z to keep the Siglent competition at bay with their budget priced 16 bit AWGs. I would love to hear from someone that has actually compared the 2 units (1022z, 1032Z) side by side with their covers off and internals revealed.

If they are the same, then for sure firmware upgrades could unlock the new 1022Z and then we could find out what the real bandwidth limit is on the unit.

So will those models produce square waves to the same frequency as sine like SDG1032X or SDG1062X ?

It seems your the Siglent agent so you should know the answer to your question! Nice looking AWGs the 12 bit SDG1000x series, but this thread is about the Rigol series so please resist the temptation to go into detail about your units.

I just want to know if somebody can tell if the Rigol units are firmware upgradable. Speaking to someone who should know today, suggests the 1022z and the 1032z are identical but would love confirmation. Even better if the 1022z could go all the way to 60 MHz with a software hack and enable it to become a 1062Z equivalent.

This series, (DG1000Z) of AWGs reminds me of Rigol's DS1000z series of scopes, and we all know that they enable the 50 MHz bandwidth to be extended out to 100 MHZ with the software hack.
